Question about modding a Model 1 Saturn (Oval Buttons)

Post by newt42 »

This question is derived off of Racket's guide:

http://www.racketboy.com/saturn-modchip ... nstall.htm

When re-routing connections, do I need to get other certain kinds of wires, or are those wires attached to/included with the chip?
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.

You'll need to provide your own wires. You get just the chip.

Just like... regular wires? Sorry, I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff. Except for soldering... I've had to replace lots and lots of shoulder buttons.

It's probably best if you just use something around 18 AWG (I think this is right, we use SWG here but I think they're pretty similar). Not too big for soldering to PCB and should carry more than enough current in it. For all my PCB mods I use 20 SWG (which is 18 AWG I think) it's roughly 1mm in diameter.

For something like that, I would go with 30 AWG. I find it hard to use too large of wire on small PCB mods like this. In the pictures in the guide, it looks like 20-24 AWG was used. It is much larger than what is needed. I wouldn't even worry about the wire being too thin, the traces in the PCB are much smaller than 30 AWG anyway.
