What to do with your VHS that you don't watch anymore?

VHS? Oh, I remember that shit. I got rid of my VCR and VHS tapes around the time DVD came out. Speaking of DVD, I got rid of those when I figured out that computer video files downloaded from the internet were superior. As for Blu-ray, I already know how to use the internet so there is no need to take a step backwards. Ah, gotta love technology.

Maybe in 20 years there will be a resurgence in VHS because it looks "warmer" than DVDs.

True, I do have Disney's Aladdin, Lion King, and bunch of PG movies, as well as some PG-13 such as Titanic, Men in Black, Rush Hour. And of course, my old man's thriller/slasher films that he gets for cheap at gas stations/movie rental are also in the mix. I'll try to find some charity that are willing to accept VHS.

Well, what to do with the VCR? I don't know the one in the basement is still working, and I'm not gonna to test it to see.

I tossed all mine in the trash, because they were all starting to wear out. The only ones I kept as keepsakes were the Indiana Jones films, simply because I'd had them the longest - Raiders was the first VHS tape I ever owned. It's so old that it actually has a blurb on the front that says "Coming to a theater near you May 23, 1984: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom."

you can buy a USB VHS player and it'll turn your tapes into movie files on your comp.
I'm considering this for a few of the odd ones I still have.

but yeah, I've wondered this myself. maybe blind people might like them...I mean they can't see HD anyway. heh, I don't mean that to be rude.

my old VCR would need a cleaning to play very well, but it's got component output so I wouldn't mind trying it out if I didn't need to pay for a cleaning first.

ha...was just going to say that. ive been using the EasyCap capture dongle and its been working great. Also good if you have tapes not of your region that you want to copy (PAL on NTSC or vice versa).
i got this one as it supports the above function (PAL60 and NTSC433)

really worth it for old music VHS tapes that havent been released on dvd, or home videos. makes it alot easier to send to friends and family as well!

I still keep them and watch them. I got the only trilogy of stars wars you will ever need on vhs (pre special edition).

I still keep mine, especially the ones of a whole lot of Disney movies that either never came out on DVD or came out EDITED on DVD. We actually don't have a lot of Disney DVDs because we're like, "why should we buy them again when we already have them on tape?" I can imagine either kicking myself or rejoicing in the next 10 years when the tapes either get worn out, cut, or demagnetized, and we'll have to buy them all over again on Blu-Rays...
