OK,
I did a search in the forum in regards with VHS, there was a thread earlier, but not in the same direction that I was looking for.
SO, after a decade that I got my PS2, which was also the first DVD player in my house, I stumble upon a bunch of VHS tapes. Man, my family stopped buying VHS (entirely!) just a year after getting the PS2, and now I just found the last VCR we bought stored inside a box that was in the basement!
Now what can I do with the VHS tapes, which I am definitely sure no one in my family will ever watch again? Are there charities that will take in, such as for military servicemen?
Just to be clear, no one in my family is planning to keep the VCR and VHS tapes, we all just want to move on with the current technology.
What to do with your VHS that you don't watch anymore?

Or.. Rent a bulldozer/roller and wreak havoc upon them poor old tapes!

If all else fails.. There's always the Cathode Ray Mission!

I need to get rid of mine. They're just taking up space and the VCR side of my old DVD/VCR unit wasn't even working properly last time I used it a long time ago anyway. I might list some on here for cheap if anyone is interested, or might unload on Craigslist/Freecycle/Goodwill/whatnot.

Why don't you donate them to a homeless shelter or a retirement home?
Ow! My small intestine!

I only keep and buy VHS that have not had a DVD release. Noone ever really wants them unless they are rare genre films.

In my case, a lot of the originals probably won't be to terribly useful to either place, though there's a lot of recorded TV that I'd need to give as a 'used tape'. Tiny Toons - How I Spent My Summer Vacation could be good for a homeless shelter with kids, but Naked Lunch and a documentary about Salvador Dali, not so much.Scooter wrote:Why don't you donate them to a homeless shelter or a retirement home?

A VCR is still the easiest way to convert RF out to composite. I still use my VCRs to run my Ataris and Colecovision. Dunno what to do with the media though. Maybe in 20 years there will be a resurgence in VHS because it looks "warmer" than DVDs.
