Why would they fire you over that???? That is ridiculous!

Each interactive kiosk display costs GameStop and most other game stores around $75,000 per unit. Multiply that by the number of GS's and that's a LOT of money, so GS of course would rather see it destroyed than simply given away to some collector.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I use to work in a crappy retail store, the district manager would rather have stuff thrown away then given to somebody and they will fire you if you get caught taking stuff from the back. I didn't get fired, I knew someone that did. Anyway, I think it would be kind of cool to have a Sega or Nintendo kiosk, if I had a large enough room then maybe I would get one, but they do take up a lot of space.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

I would love to know where that number comes from. Because Ive built enough and taken enough of these damn things apart to know there is about two grand worth of pieces to go to each of them. $7,500 I might believe but $75,000 is ludicrous - that is more than a new Mercedes.

It's what was on the receipt for the three (PS3, Wii, 360 (Large Bubble dome version)) that our store bought a few years back as they came out.

Mostly it's simply companies charging that rate to establishments because they can, because store demos more than make up for their price in increased game sales and because the $75,000 also includes repairs/maintenance-retrofitting for system redesigns (ala PS3 slim) and software for the demo system itself.

I still find that very hard to believe, even with updates and maintenance. The two times I worked retail the machines were never fixed when the rep came around. Ok well they fixed the GBA one when the original one they sent us didnt work. Other than that one time it was up to us.
