Most people have no talent and aren't funny, and people like comedians that remind them of themselves.

Interesting.

I think you are on to something, to a certain extent. I have very little in common with Richard Pryor or Bill Cosby. But yeah, certain comics deliver comedy that you "get"/relate to.

Yeah, I think it's the reason comedians like Patton Oswalt, David Cross and Brian Posehn are so popular with our demographic. Not to say I think these guys don't deserve a following, just that it's obvious that they are more popular with our crowd than others.

I'll have to second Zach Galifinakas.

Also, Brian Posehn and Patton Oswald are comic geniuses as well.

I certainly would not count guys like Jeff Dunham and Dane Cook among the great comic geniuses, but they ARE funny. I don't always understand the hate they get. They're not high brow or thought provoking by any stretch of the imagination, but I have enjoyed some of their stuff

Jim Gaffigan is really good at pointing out how lazy and greedy so much of us in America are with his comedy. I also love how he heckles himself. He was kind of cool on that 70s show too.

Mitch Hedberg is quirky. You really have to "get" him. Too bad he's not around anymore R.I.P. I've heard that he was an extremly shy performer. Strange that he would choose a profession like that when he wasn't comfortable in front of people

I think Bill Hicks probably would get my vote for best stand up guy ever though, at least for me. He was very passionate on stage and very bold. Not afraid to challenge people's beliefs or say things that NO ONE would ever dare say. Some of his beliefs were quite intriguing. I think he was ahead of his time a bit. I have tons of his stuff on my mp3 player and I also love some of the Songs Tool wrote about him

Yeah, I like Jim Gaffigan too, and I don't care who knows it. I loved his Saturn Commercial Outtakes.

I don't care much for Dunham, but he isn't offensive to the senses. Dane Cook, on the other hand... wow. I don't find him funny, he's always way too profane and scatological, and he's been caught red-handed stealing jokes from Louis C.K. and others. He's only just barely above Carlos Mencia in my eyes.

Bill Hicks was definitely a good stand-up comic. But I think your statement relates closer to George Carlin

I don't personally know anyone who thinks Dunham is funny. I doubt Dunham thinks he's funny either.

Mitch Hedberg was our generation's Steven Wright. When I saw him, he was anything but shy. He even mingled with people at the bar after his set. Add that to the fact he was tripping balls, I'd say he was very open with his fans.

My favorite stand up will always be Jim Gaffigan. He's absolutely hilarious. My family and I drop jokes in our conversations all the time. Rodney Dangerfield is pretty hilarious too. He's not really a stand up, but Groucho Marx and Jack Benny are very funny as well. Also someone is not known for his stand up and more for his TV acting is Bob Newhart. His stand up is very funny as well.
