Trouble with European PSX backups...

Post by IDreamInSound »

With two of my American modded PSXs I have acquired on this forum over the years, I have only had trouble with the video of my European backup. After booting up, the games run smoothly except for the video, which does this sort of quick vertical scroll making it really hard to see the screen (I can take a picture if that description doesn't explain). Anyone know the reason for this and possibly have the solution? Thanks for reading.

PAL games are a different frequency (50Hz). You can't play PAL games on NTSC consoles (60hz) unless you force the game to the proper frequency. So the behavior you're seeing is expected.

I don't know if there's a PAL-NTSC converter for PSX games. Google around to see if there's one.

There are patchers to convert your games from pal to ntsc (google) but the screen will probably be off center and not look as good as an ntsc game.

Import Player will fix your problems. It's a boot disk that will patch the game on the fly.

You probably want the NTSC version.

Alternatively, A Gameshark CD with the right code will also work.

This site probably has the stuff to patch and burn fixed games tho I haven't tried anything on it.
