Ok, So I get a call from my wife (who is 6 months pregnant) to tell me that the mall she works at is closing down due to bad weather. She is terrified to drive in the snow and wanted me to come get her in my 4WD car.
Well I had to come out anyway because all of the people that bought stuff off of me last night need their things mailed to them. So I gather up the items I need to mail and get into my car to embark on my journey, and what a journey it was.
I live about 3 miles away from the interstate and that is the quickest way to get to the mall and post office. So up the exit ramp I go, the roads are bad.....really really bad, but Im a pretty confident driver so I just proceed slowly down the road. I eventually come to a large group of stopped traffic on the 4 lane interstate. In my part of the country, traffic jams are completely unheard of. Obviously I stop and wait for the other cars to make their way down the road so I can continue on my way.
About 30 minutes later, Im still sitting there in the same spot. Much to my dismay I look at my gas gauge to see that I have less than 1/8th of a tank. So I figure its either A: sit in traffic until I run out of gas and become a hazard, or B: turn around and drive down the shoulder to the exit ramp I came off of about 2 miles back. I go with B.
By the time I make my decision I see about 3 trucks that have the same idea as me and they seem to make it down the shoulder with no problems. So I turn around and follow the other trucks. About a mile down the shoulder I notice that all the trucks have stopped moving because of a road sign blocking their way. To the right they have cars so they cant go that way and to the left of the sign, the shoulder becomes very steep and even the biggest of trucks would get stuck. I cant turn back around so Im forced to just put my car in the ditch and wait until the weather clears to get it out. Now here I am about 4 miles away from home, a pregnant wife stuff at the mall and a car full of goodies that needed to be mailed.
I have no other choice but to walk home. The snow was so bad that I cant see more than 20 feet in front of me, cars are wrecking all around me and Im walking. My brother picked up my wife with his truck (chains on the tires). I left the goodies in the car because I didnt want them to get ruined in the snow.
We got 18 inches in about 3 hours and we are expected to get about 2 more feet by tomorrow morning.
So if you are one of the ones waiting on an item from me, I will mail them out as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience, but mother nature is being a bitch.
I thought you guys would enjoy my little tale, it was an interesting experience. I've never walked down an interstate before. I hope to never do it again.

Wow, what a storm! Thanks for sharing your experience. It's supposed to hit the Boston area sometime Sunday.

So the moral of the story is "keep an eye on your gas tank".

I hope it doesn't.

Sounds like one heck of an experience! No hard feelings about the game I bought, just ship it out whenever you can without getting yourself killed.

As long as everyone is safe. I hope the stuff is in the trunk so no random roamers are tempted to break into your car.Frag Mortuus wrote:So if you are one of the ones waiting on an item from me, I will mail them out as soon as possible. It is. They have since shut down the stretch of interstate that I was on, so I dont think that anyone will be going near the vehicle soon.
If things are any better in the morning, Im going to use my moms AAA to have them bring me the car. Lol.

Here in Virginia theres suppose to be a storm hitting around midnight and we're expected to get 10 - 15 inches!
Re: Crazy stuff, that snow is!!!!
It's supposed to be starting here in the Philly area at around 1am, it is usually not as bad as they say on the news in this area, but sounds like it might surprise us.

Hey all, I'm here in Western CT and they keep changing the snowfall predictions. I'm sorry to hear you got stranded there.... I've had that happen to me a couple years ago. I'm kind of anxious because I work until 6pm tomorrow and we're supposed to get hit hard as well, the best of luck to you bud!
