Thanks!! Most people that saw it before I had everything set up or just heard it was black told me I was making a mistake. I'm very happy with how the games "pop" off the black because they become the focus. But even if It didnt look so good I'd still be happy because the main reason for painting black was so that the only thing you see when the lights are off is the flicker of the TV screen. I'll still be adding a few more things to liven it up a bit so it'll change the feel of the room even more I hope.

I guess i'm going to be the first asshole in this thread and I really don't mean to be but I'm not into this room. It's like everything is in a closet, and the whole room is black and dark I mean are you going to put up store displays? Or Posters and Lights an arcade? If it's not finished yet then my bad. But it's just a black room it needs a lot of stuff.

I guess you admitted to that yourself.

Come on, give the guy some kudos for transforming an extra room into a dedicated GAME room, you may not agree of putting the games on the wall (with alphabetical/system order!), but that's his choice.

And he spent his own time and resource to do this, don't throw mud into this!

@Crabmaster: you obviously have a family and is a working man, how much effort you put into this?

I am curious to know what kind of shelves you use, since most bookcases are too deep (ala wasted space) for game cases.

I just said that because I'm sure someone will accuse me of being an asshole but i mean if I don't like something am i allowed to say it? I just really really do not dig that room it reminds of a scene from the body double. It's just too dark and to plain and you're hiding all the good stuff in a closet type area. If it's unfinished then cool can't wait to see the rest but I Don't like it sorry. If this is an all praise forum let me know. I'm trying to be nice about it, because as far as games go it's a bad ass collection i just don't like the room. I thought on message boards people were allowed to give there opinion...

@alpinex2

I dont mind the critisism. I realize that a lot of people dont like the black and emptyness of the room. I am definately not done with the room yet, but honestly if you dont like it now you probably wont really be into it later either. I'm more about functionality than appearance and this room functions just like I want it. Its windowless and dark so when I am playing a game I have zero distractions. Keep an eye on this thread in the future because as I keep adding to it I'd love to see if your opinion changes or stays the same. Thanks!!

@skynight

I do have a family and a 40 hour a week job so I dont get to put as much time and money into the room as I want. Its been a bit of work, but I was lucky enough to have a friend come and help share a lot of the workload with me and bring his own tools and expertise which probably ended up saving me a good chunk of cash.

As for shelves we just purchased a whole bunch of Pine boards and black brackets, sized them out and mounted them to the wall. It was a pain having the water shut off there, but I dont think to box we built around it looks to awkward. The top and bottom boards are 1"x8" and all the middle ones are 1"x6". I have most of the games faced to the front of the board, but a lot of them can be pushed back deeper.

If you want to keep the clean look then framed game posters with track lights would look very nice like a "movie theater" feel to it. But with the black walls and nothing on them it feels cold. I don't mind the black to much if you layer it with posters etc...

These would look really nice in a black room

I've got some game maps and uncommon posters I've been thinking about framing. I may get to it eventually, but its definately not a priority.

I'm in the market for some nice posters as well. Something that doesn't scream "14 year old geek who pulled the Sega Master System poster out of the game box and pushpinned it to the wall".

Lol. Ive got a lot of posters that would fit that description, but I want to keep away from that this time.

Very nice use of limited space.

My only concern would be the dark colours making the small space feel even smaller, but with that said it would also make gaming much more focussed.

Very nice and neat project!
