Where all the Blu-Ray anime at?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

But if you must insist on watching Blu Ray anime, I suggest downloading the rips from Japan. I see Blu Ray rips coming out all the time. Recently Dragon Ball Kai started to come out on Blu Ray and it's better than the TV version since it doesn't crop the screen to pull off a fake widescreen.

I own a PS3 but never felt the need to buy a Blu Ray since the PS3 can stream media from my computer network or run files off of burned DVD's. The PS3 makes Blu Ray obsolete. Very ironic indeed.
I always love this response: Piracy is the answer. And we all wonder why anime studios and distributors are shutting down.

Piracy is never the answer. You love something, you support it. You don't throw it to the wolves, or worse, become one of those wolves.
Unless you are downloading giant 25-50GB rips and have a super fast connection, streaming stuff on the web or across a network (HD or otherwise) does not come close to Blu-Ray a/v quality. Not all 1080p is equal...but we've debated all this before (http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 15&t=15438)

I don't know why anime hasn't seen more Blu-Ray releases...does anyone know how popular the format is in Japan? That might have something to do with it...
Something that wasn't mentioned in the original post is whether the rant was about there not being much anime Blu Ray or that there isn't much US release anime Blu Ray. In one you get the nice english subtitles, in the other you don't.

Blu-ray is quite popular in JP, as I checked in the past with Anime Newsnetwork and DannyChoo.com, sales are in the top ten. But of course, JP people are very honest with buying goods, considering that for JP anime release on DVD and Blu-ray, you get 3 eps max per disc (vs 5~6 eps/disc in NA markets).

Yeah, it seems like Japan does get its fair share of anime on Blu-Ray, just looking at this.

I see Ponyo, Evangelion 1.11, K-On, Kanon and One Piece movies all right there on the front page.

Depends. They used to be around $35, which was way too much. Now, they're usually around the $20 range. I've even picked up a few at retailers like Wal-Mart and Target for $10.

$20 seems to be a fair price. DVD releases go for about the same?

The Blu Ray version of Evangelion 1.11 is coming out next spring. I think a DVD version of 1.11 is coming out then too. Why they issued 1.01 at all is beyond me.

Depends again - retailers tend to sell them for about $5-10 less than their Blu-Ray equivalent.

Then again, stuff like this happens.

They're selling the Blu-Ray version for less than the DVD copy. Mind Freak.
