Hello, I had just gotten the Sega Genesis Collection for PS3. There are a few RPGs on there...none of which I have ever played through. I want to give one of them a shot since it would take too much time to do them all. So please tell me which one you think is best for a casual RPG gamer.
Thanks
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
Shining Force
Shining Force II: Ancient Sealing
Shining in the Darkness
Beyond Oasis
Fatal Labyrinth

Beyond Oasis gets my vote as the best, but it is more like Zelda, whereas the other ones are turn based or grid based.
Out of the others, Shining Force is a great game (and a pretty good series too, at least if you play the pre ps2 ones).
Shining in the darkness was tough for me to like, you explore the dungeons in the 1st person, which put me off.
Also on the collection there is also Phantasy Star and Golden Axe Warrior for the SMS as unlockables, which are both kind of RPGs (Golden Axe Warrior is more like zelda)

Phantasy Star II is a grind-fest. I'd personally recommend either of the Shining Force games for a casual player.

Beyond Oasis shouldn't take up too much time to beat. But my favorite on that list Phantasy Star IV but that will take more of your time.

Stay away from Phantasy Star if you're a casual RPG gamer. Great series, but it requires an ungodly amount of grinding.

Its not on the list but, Warsong is awesome if you like SRPGs. And Beyond Oasis is pretty great as well. Also, Shining Force 2 is right on par with Beyond Oasis on the awesomeness meter.

Re: Choose A Genesis RPG For Me!
Well, I think there's relatively less grinding in the later installments. Seriously, Phantasy Star II seemed like 10% story and 90% grinding. PS IV at least seems like it's at 50-50, and I think it's got the best story of all of them.weasels wrote:dedalusdedalus wrote:Stay away from Phantasy Star if you're a casual RPG gamer. Re: Choose A Genesis RPG For Me!
I actually haven't played any, but I adore Shining Force III for Saturn, so Shining Force is the series I'm most looking forward to from the same collection. Though I'm also quite curious about Phantasy Star, since it's a legendary series.
