Top 10 Best Selling Games of 2009 Are...

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I'm not sure that higher sales have ever meant a better game. There is definitely a correlation, but I'm not sure how strong it is.

Let's look at some data, shall we!

He doesn't compute a correlation coefficient. I wish he provided a link to his raw data.

Yeah, I wish he did more with it too. I kind of doubt that there would be much of a correlation because "the problem zone" he talks about has so much data in it that it would likely level the correlation. He does make a good point though that none of the top sellers ever have anything really low.

Good Lord that is awful. Presenting data via "scatter graphs"? He definitely had the data, but was terrible at presenting it.

The guy's excel bar graphs were also horrible, but, I do enjoy the fact he took the time to research and have actual numbers.

Great idea, bad execution.

Well, he's not trying to sell anything.

I don't have a problem with scatter plots. I just wish he had done some more/better analysis.

There's an interesting thing about originality. A game that is incredibly derivative to you might be very original for me. It all depends on prior experience.

2. Wii Fit w/ balance board (Wii) -- 3,500,000 - 5/21/08
3. Wii Sports Resort w/ MotionPlus (Wii) -- 2,400,000 - 6/26/09
4. Mario Kart Wii w/ wheel (Wii) -- 2,200,000 - 4/27/08
5. Wii Play w/ remote (Wii) -- 2,100,000 - 2/12/07
7. Pokemon Platinum (DS) -- 1,900,000 - 3/22/09
10. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) -- 1,400,000 - 11/15/09

Three of the six games came out this year. Two came out in the first half of 08, and one came out at the beginning of 07. That's a hell of a sales curve. Most games sell awesome in the first month and then massively taper off. Not the first party Nintendo stuff.
That's because there aren't a whole lot of great games available for the Wii. Roughly 90% are mediocre crap.

Your logic is flawed. Statement B does not lead to statement A.

Yeah I know its all about the multiplayer but I'd rather have a robust single player over multiplayer anyday.
Finally, someone who agrees with me!

Wow, I have none and want none. I'm just now entering the market for The Witcher, and finished up S.T.A.L.K.E.R. not too long ago. I did get Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard this year, but that would be nowhere near the top.
