RE5 might cause a shitstorm.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

RE5 might cause a shitstorm.

Post by Mozgus »

This just struck me. Did anyone else notice the setting and enemies from the RE5 trailer? Yeah, its Haiti or something, and it appears that the majority of the "zombies" this time are black. Do you guys think this will cause any trouble?

Yes I understand that the core RE games had us killing nothing but white zombies, and the occasional black cop zombie or something, and thats fine. And yes, RE4 had us killing Hispanic zombies non-stop, though we've definitely had plenty of games over the years where the main enemy mobs were Hispanic, not to mention other races like German and Arab. However I can't think of a single game where all the enemies were black, and the hero was white. The actual degree of zombification that the people will exhibit will probably not matter to those who get easily offended.

On the other hand, RE doesn't have much of a black following like GTA and Madden do, so maybe nothing will happen.

Shooting blacks...yeah, guaranteed core audience. You are not the first to see this.

I have no doubt it will cause a ruckus, and that is sad. If the game takes place in Haiti, then I would expect a lot of the characters to be black (main characters, people you talk with, and the zombies you shoot).

I think we should be rejoicing the multi-racial spirit of zombie-blasting and celebrating that integration even happens in un-life.

I don't think that this would be a major deal if any due to Resident Evil's lack of media presence. I can understand why this might cause a stir though.

Also the skin tone of the characters seems to be overally black(as in not brown). From the trailers I didn't really notice the strong relationship between the Africans and well real life African people. The resemblence isn't as strong, which I think would be because of the plague/virus altering the appearance etc.

Although thats how I interpreted it. The game is set in Africa BTW. :)

Lol, Jesse Jackson is going to FREAK!

I think it's in like Africa or something, but a bunch of blacks none the less. What I want to know is the big fuss about it. All the REfans are up in arms about it, buying 360s to prepare for it, when we haven't even gotten a snippet of gameplay. Whatta jip. Well...they are REfans so I guess I should know better. :P

I can see Jesse Jackson and The (un) Reverant Al Sharpton getting up in arms about a game that teaches kids about shooting African Americans (insert sarcasm for that last part. I know that's not the point of the game). I'm thinking this is why Capcom just announced the game won't be out until 2009.
