I was thinking, "The Sims? That can't possibly be it! It's not retro!"
Then I went and looked it up and it's just a tick shy of ten years old. Man, I feel dumb. And old.

I was thinking the same thing. Sevin told me the question and I asked him if it was old enough. I felt I was cutting a but close with the Quake III one, but it was late 99 and on the DC, so I felt it was ok. Not being a Sims player, I hadn't realized the first was that old either.Limewater wrote:I was thinking, "The Sims? That can't possibly be it! It's not retro!"

Yeah, I don't think of Quake III as old, either. Not that it made any difference. I was completely clueless on that question. I didn't even know which part was the sound sample in question.

Well, a lot of electronic music has lots of layered samples. The 'vocal' bits were used in another song by a different group. I'm not sure if the other group created then with a vocoder, or took them from something else. So I didn't add anything to obfuscate that one. It took me a few listens to the track before I recognized the samples, but not every time I'm listening to it there's a deathmatch going on in my head. I have another one I'll probably do later that's going to be layered too.Limewater wrote: Yeah, I don't think of Quake III as old, either. Not that it made any difference.
