Name them. I've tried that option "Allow more than 8 sprites per scanline" and it doesn't help any.marurun wrote:A large number of PC emulators effectively eliminate flicker and slowdown without altering other aspects of the game. If they can do it with emulators on the PC, they can do it with emulators on consoles, too.
Console specific audio/video flaws that drive you nuts.

Media drives are often the loudest thing in all these new devices. The fans on my Wii are nearly silent while playing VC games or content that doesn't use the DVD drive. Pop in a game and the entire living room is a buzz. Its not that bad, but being a professional A/V guy it drives me nuts.

I was able to cut the drive noise down by 50%. I just took it apart, scrubbed the gears and rails and applied fresh lube to them. Then I put it back together, and let the intro to Dead or Alive 2 loop for a few hours to give it a work out. That intro has non-stop disc loading behind the scenes. It's perfect.GagaMan wrote:Not exactly a audio/video flaw, but the Dreamcast itself (which seems to vary with each system) can be so darn noisy! One of my Dreamcast's in particular (my original one from 1999) is so loud it's not even set up any more. "BURR BURRRR BURR BURRR BUR!"

Lol, that actually can help in Konami shooters. Gives you an extra edge imo.Mozgus wrote:I wasn't asking why the flicker exists. I just don't like it.
I just hate how crappy video out is on most earlier consoles in general, that, and the fact that most consoles support RGB but not component out. The latter is kind of unreasonable since component is pretty recent, but it makes me slightly envious of our friends across the pond.
The video out is so bad that most consoles aren't even playable on anything but a CRT tv imo. I can't play Saturn, NES, or even SNES on my LCD without staring in horror at how horrible it looks.

Lets see:
I would say SF2 on the Megadrive had really horrible voice samples that drove me crazy!
Also hate slowdown in games. I remember in Streets of Rage 2 where it would slow down a little when there were loads of enemies on screen. That would encourage me to kill them off even quicker.
The Saturn's attempt at transparencies...I think some developers managed to get decent transparencies out of it towards the end of its life but before that we had that horrible mesh grid like effect.
That weird effect when you leave a game world in some 3D games or when you have a leak the environment. The screen freezes and you have like a trail effect of everything onscreen....kind of hard to explain this!
Maybe not a flaw but when voice sample are repeated so many times. For example, a GTA style game where the NPCs keep saying the same things!
Crappy frame rates I cannot stand! I just hope that the next, next gen consoles can maintain 60FPS across the board.
Hardware side of things...without question the 360! It’s louder then my desktop PC!

I hate the heavy ammount of midi hiccup in N64 games. The worst game of them all I'm pretty sure is Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA. *shudders*
