Ok. First pic is of my rare Nyko "Classic Trackball Controller" for the Playstation.

Image

Compatible with the few games that are mouse-compatible. I mainly use it with my copies of Atari Anniversary Edition Redux and Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 2. My favorite games to play using this controller are Black Widow, Crystal Castles, Centipede, Missile Command, Tempest, and Warlords. Overall, the trackball is VERY responsive and really brings the arcade experience home for me. I think it's worth owning for Centipede alone!

Here's another rare Playstation controller. This one is a brand new, "Ascii Grip" One-Handed Controller that I found for $3 at a local used bookstore.

Image

When I first saw this thing, the first game that came to mind was "Alien Trilogy" since it utilizes the d-pad for all movement, and because there's also a couple trigger buttons located underneath the controller (like the Wii Nunchuck) that I thought might make an old PS1 fps somehow feel more immersive. However, as I would later discover, a standard PS joypad still feels more adequate. Also, having my hand stretched out and aimed at the screen for so long creates a lot of hand and arm cramping!

Perhaps if this controller could somehow be used together with the equally rare "Playstation Mouse," then that might be a winning combination. But unfortunately, I haven't been able to think of any other games that this one-handed controller might work well with on PS1 or PS2 (which it is also fully compatible with).

Still, for $3 it makes a nice addition to my collection

Here are my Gamester "FPS Master" controllers. I have one for PS2 and one for the original Xbox.

Image

Despite some mixed reviews from critics and gamers alike, I love these controllers for all my first-person shooter games. The dual action triggers located underneath are a BIG step up from the crappy R1 and R2 buttons on the Dualshock, and I'm not a big fan of the Controller-S on the Xbox either.. so these controllers were a Godsend. But the best part of all is that every button including the dual triggers, face buttons, the 4 buttons inside the handles, both thumbsticks, and every arrow on the d-pad are all fully programmable and savable within the unit itself. You have a total of 3 save slots called presets that you can save to. So if by chance you've been playing three different games in the last month or whatever, then you can customize your controller for each game and select that preset every time you load that game. Where this feature can be especially great though is for all those games that have little or no configuration options located in the menus.

Recently, I bought a PS2 to Xbox 360 controller adapter called the "XConverter 360" off ebay and have since been using my PS2 FPS Master on my 360 games like Gears of War and Dead Space. Everything works flawlessly without any lag and it's really increased my interest in first-person shooter games as a whole. I now look forward to picking up more fps games like Battlefield: Bad Company, Bioshock, Modern Warfare 2, and the next Medal of Honor.

So here are my PS2 controller converters. *Because yes, I like my Playstation controllers*

From left to right:
PS2 to Xbox Adapter - brand unknown. Found it for $5 at a local used game store. No lag!
PS2 to Xbox/Gamecube/Wii "Universal Adapter" - by Game-Elements. Said to work flawlessly. $15 off ebay
PS2 to PS3 Adapter - brand unknown (import). Found still sealed at another local game shop for $10
PS2 to PS3 "Joybox" Adapter - by Yobo. Said to be "one of the best." Supports Rumble. $15 at local game shop
PS2 to Xbox 360 "XConverter" Adapter - by Joytron. Lag-free! Works great with my FPS Master controller and 15th Anniversary Street Fighter fightpad. $40 off ebay

My Street Fighter fightpads

Image

From left to right: Ryu (PS2), Akuma w/collector box (Xbox), Ryu (Xbox 360)

I was originally planning on buying the black SFIV Ken controller. But when I ended up buying an Arcade 360 model instead of the Elite, I thought the white Ryu controller might look a little better when used together with a white 360 (color coordination). Yes, I'm a geek

What's funny though is that I don't even really like using the new Ryu pad with the Street Fighter IV game. I'd much rather use my old Ryu controller with my PS2-to-360 controller adapter on SFIV. As nice as the new controllers are, I think the old 15th Anniversary pads (PS2 and Xbox) still feel more comfortable.

However, I do like to use my SFIV fightpad with Virtua Fighter 5. It works great with that game

Just bought this off ebay today

Image

It's the PS2 to Dreamcast "Total Control Plus" controller adapter by EMS.

I was debating on whether I should get this adapter or the "Dream Connection 4-in-1" by Innovation, which also lets you use Saturn controllers on the DC. But the Total Control Plus was being sold almost $30 cheaper and has a separate VMU Slot (for the games that require use of a VMU) and a 3-way switch on the side for selecting between a joypad, joystick, and steering wheel configuration. Also, it has been reported to support Rumble and have no input lag.

Thanks. They're definitely nice to have. Especially if you're a fan of the Sega Saturn controller, like I am.
