Hey guys. I am attempting to organize my collection in Excel and I was curious if anyone would be willing to post or email their excel file that they use to organize their collection. I am not sure what I want to do exactly, but I would appreciate a few examples to help me get started.
Thanks for the help.
Tony

Re: Collection Excel Files
I have workbook pages set up by system with columns for game title, country of origin, condition (complete, cart, disc, book, box), an other column for notes (5 screw, greatest hits, flaws), and then type for very rough genre. The orange one is one I have up for trade. In this case obviously because I have a dupe.

You can see the workbook pages by system, with the first being a list of systems themselves. Not sure why I haven't labeled the columns, but they're for system name, model/version/color, condition (complete, box, etc), and then accessories.

It isn't fancy, but if someone wants a blank copy of the spreadsheet I use, I can post it in here.

Re: Collection Excel Files
Just a suggestion, Excel isn't a database program. You should look into using Microsoft Access instead. Much better program for what it seems you want to do.

Re: Collection Excel Files
Would say its easier to use Excel because probably there are more computers with Excel installed than Access so you could take your file anywhere you go. What I do is have it on my email and every know and then I update it, then I can just view my list anywhere in the world (right now I'm in Venezuela and can access my list!!) and with gmail you can view it in html (should probably work on a mobile phone too). Well Access is also super easy to use and maintain, just a few thoughts.Luke wrote:Just a suggestion, Excel isn't a database program. You should look into using Microsoft Access instead. I know your most likely looking for a free deal, but this is what I use and I love it:

Plus, its export feature is pretty awesome for posting stuff online in a variety of ways. I just use the text format...

Re: Collection Excel Files
All true, but with Access you can make buttons that look like consoles that you can click on. That, and after you spend part of semester learning access, you feel like you use it or lose it.executioner wrote: Would say its easier to use Excel because probably there are more computers with Excel installed than Access so you could take your file anywhere you go.
