Quicker way to FTP?

Post by itsmattxp »

Right now I'm FTPing files to my original xbox and its taking forever forever for me to transfer emulator roms. Is it normal that it takes 5 seconds to start each ftp transfer for each rom and then another 8 - 10 seconds for it to transfer? Is there anyway to speed this up? I believe that before I swapped for a new HDD it went by a lot faster. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! Currently using FlashFXP.

FTP has to wait for acknowledgments for sending stuff. So any long pauses like that are probably something inherent to the way FTPing into a Xbox works.

I found I got faster times using *gasp* Windows Explorer

It is easy, you just type
ftp://(Ftp username)@ (FTP server

It didn't take that long when I did it. It was slow doing large amounts of small files, but not like that. I was using Total Commander to login and transfer files to the Evo-X dashboard. You usually only have to do it once.

Which dashboard are you using? If you're using EvoX, the ftp server sucks. XBMC has a much better one. Probably UnleashX as well

Actually, it was UnleashX I was using. It was years ago, and I've lent the xbox out for quite awhile. I installed one of those superpacks where you can boot into different dashboards off the unleashx menu.

Just use unleashx it's easily the best dashboard for general use, it's much faster than XBMC as well, takes less than 5 seconds to boot from cold, compared to XBMC's 25 seconds. Plus unleashX is completely customisable if you know XML you can completely change what menu items show up when you boot the xbox, you can even have sub folders.

I think flashxmc is supposed to work faster with one of the dashboards, i don't remember which though. I switched to using filezilla and have had the best luck with that. But for large amounts for files like roms they'll always take a long time. Some games, like KOTOR can take forever to ftp for the same reason.

I recently FTPed a few gigs worth of roms onto my original Xbox, and I think it took somewhere around 5 to 10 minutes to finish completely.
