The kinds of opinions people form about ideologues like Beck have material consequences, and to pretend that simply "que sera sera" is irresponsible and ignorant. So is pre-emptively refusing to engage in any kind debate where you might be proven wrong - this is of course the same kind of rhetorical tactic that people like Beck espouse.dsheinem wrote: People bash Glenn Beck because he is right a lot of the time
Close minded people say that someone is "Always" wrong or "Always" right.
He has told people exactly how things were going to turn out. Like the jobless rate escalating tremendously despite all that the Government has done with "creating" jobs.
Like the National debt spiraling out of control .
All things he said would happen before Obama was elected.
Etc, etc.
But like I said he has been wrong about a lot of things and he has exaggerated a lot of things.
I agree on some of his points and laugh at others.
if you think he has never been right about anything, you probably just have a personal problem with him and refuse to agree with anything he says. But that's your right. I don't care.
And I will not respond further to this thread because it really is pointless and just a matter of opinion which everyone has and everyone is different
That said, you're right, I do have a personal problem with Beck. My personal problem with him is that he engages in fear-mongering and hate-speech. I'm glad you are bright enough to laugh most of this off, but there's ample evidence that a healthy population of his audience is not. I'm terrified by what they may end up doing to this country and our already shit-political dialogue.
Also, I'm glad you raised some specific points. He projected worsening job numbers? Who hasn't? Even the White House has projected for a long time now that things will get worse before they get better. No administration could create jobs fast enough to compensate for the losses incurred by a long-declining economy. Anyone who thinks that our current economic situation has much at all to do with the current administration's policies doesn't know much about national or global economics.
The same is true for the National Debt - although "out of control" is a matter of perspective - the writing has been on the wall for so long that Beck himself isn't bringing anything to the table.
As for "All things he said would happen before Obama was elected" - that's just vague. For example, I know he likes to advocate that Obama'd create a Marxist/Communist dicatorship - and I don't know that any objective observer can see that, even if the gov't does have more regulatory power than they did under Bush...
Consider this another call for a "Debate" forum, BTW.

Please stop feeding the trolls! Think of the kittens!

Glenn beck is small-time. You want real crazy? Try David Icke and Andy Schlafly out for size. That said i still dislike him, but can also ignore his craziness, hate-speech, and fearmongering. He's just there.

Re: Glenn Beck
I used to watch his show on occasion since we were only allowed to watch FOX news or CNN at work. What I don't understand is why people get so worked up about him. If you don't like him, don't watch him, don't buy his books, etc. Also, has ever called himself a journalist? I know that most people with shows like his don't. They are more along the lines of commentators since they offer their views on the news as opposed to journalists who are supposed to just report the news.

I'm getting tired of all this political crap. He's farther to the right, so liberals think he's an insane wacko. Conservatives think that anybody farther to the left is crazy. It's all so predictable. Stop trying to make heros and villains out of everybody with a loud mouth and strong views, and we'd all be better off!
Take a step back from all the B.S. and you'll see a bunch of well intentioned people on either side of the fence who have very different ideas of what is good for the nation.

Re: Glenn Beck
Yeah but he's not one of those well intentioned people. He's part of the problem, segregating the two sides even more than they already are. If these fake journalists/commentators/whatever you want to call thems actually gave half a shit about this country like they claim to, they would cut out the bullshit and actually take fair looks at the issues. Instead they try to make everyone see their way by distorting the facts, making up outright lies, and basically just trying to grow their extreme supporters to the point where they outnumber the other sides' extreme supporters.
