Import Wii titles

Post by HellHammer »

Without delving into it too deeply, I've decided that NOA has got some serious metal retardation occurring, in respects to software Nintendo makes, and the software NOA chooses to release. Please see the game difference, exhibited here (for NOA) versus here (for NCL). And basically, I've decided I might import some games that I've been hoping to see released locally, but as of now, have not.

I'll start my crying and complaining with my opportunity to play through Disaster Day of Crisis and how much I truly enjoyed it. But then Reggie came out and said that he would see how it does in the European territories and consider it's NA release...And then promptly proceed to publicly bash the game, right before the EU release date, calling it "laughable". Professional.

Trace Memory R (Japan/Europe Only) I adored the original and am now a die-hard fan of anything Cing related. Thanks NOA for skipping over the sequel to an established second party game. Please don't repeat this when Hotel Dusk's sequel is ready, I beg you.

Fatal Frame IV (Japan Only) I could go on and on about Fatal Frame and it's following here in the states. And you could probably bring up it's apparent control issues. Bottom line is, we'll never know how a localized version could have turned out. Awesome, NOA passes over the fourth sequel in a long running franchise, one that just happened to be co-developed by Suda 51.

Captain Rainbow (Japan Only). A new Nintendo IP, an adventure game, consisting almost entirely of Nintendo throwback characters and NES references? Nah, Excitebots instead.

The 'New Play Control' series. Now we could all argue that releasing older games is a joke, but honestly, if you liked Pikmin, even in the slightest bit, you were looking to get a hold of this game on the Wii for a decent price. NOA bothered with the GameCube ports of 'Super Mario Sports' and 'DK's not-so-country', but to skimp on games like Chibi Robo and Pikmin 2 is absurd, especially considering the GC version of Pikmin 2 still goes for around $40 used.

While I'm really excited for Nintendo's titles in development like, Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, I'm fairly worried I'll have to look into importing a few more of Nintendo's own games in the future, as I'm not sure they won't just try to ride Mario and Metroid sales out, in lieu of releasing games like Pikmin 3, Sin and Punishment 2, Dynamic Slash, Monado Beginning of the World, or Cosmic Walker worldwide.

Anyone else found any good import Wii games? Or does anyone else happen to feel like a Sega Saturn owner?

Wait... WHAT?! This game wasn't released in the US? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! (Sorry, haven't been keeping up with Wii releases lately...) I was looking forward to playing this game once it came out, since I loved the first game! Now I'll have to figure out how to hack my Wii (which of course has the new system update that broke all homebrew apps) and probably import the European version so I can get a version in English... Darn it!!

Maybe there's a slim chance that any of these games are just delayed in localization, or is it absolutely, set-in-stone confirmed that they are NOT coming over?

I really wanted to play Captain Rainbow. I'd love to see it make it stateside, but it had the lowest first week sales of any Nintendo game for the Wii. But don't worry, I'll have Wii Fit Plus to occupy my time instead...

Sigh.....

It's situations like this that make me hate Nintendo.

Seriously, at least make the damn games region free! It's no longer necessary to lock people out when we live in a global economy and are in the age of the internet.

Not kidding. And from the info that I can find, it's not ever going to happen.

My feelings exactly. Nintendo doesn't have to push the Wii___ games as much as they do. I'm not exactly sure how much advertisement went into Captain Rainbow, but I guarantee it wasn't much.

This is the worst part. Nintendo doesn't allow me a region free console, yet they force me to import the titles that they make, but won't release in my territory. The real icing on the cake is that you need something along the lines of the Homebrew Channel to even play the imports, and not only does that go against Nintendo's TOS, but they actively pursue it's elimination through updates..."I'm the best man, I did it."

Fatal Frame 4 actually has a competent fan translation to be released very soon (if it is not already released). Captain Rainbow I doubt we will ever see a translation (though there is a proof of concept on youtube). Ironically the Monster Hunter 3's fan translation is functionally complete - story is still not translated.

Did I miss something and Sin and Punishment 2 got pushed for US release? It was scheduled for Q1.

Im all for region free consoles, the fact that all regions get shafted in some way just irks me, but lets be realistic about this. It wont happen anytime soon - even though the PS3 is, we all know Microsoft will be the last to convert. I know my amount of Wii imports jumped as soon as I had the homebrew channel installed.

Nope, it's still supposed to be on track for a Feb. 1st release.

Thanks for reminding me about the Fatal Frame IV translation as well, I'd forgotten all about that.

Awesome, thanks! I had heard about this when it first started and for some reason, I forgot all about it!

As far as Sin and Punishment 2 goes, it and the upcoming sequel to Hotel Dusk are both in danger of being skipped over, as I see it. I just hope NOA proves me wrong.
