Re: Upcoming Together Retro Calendar

Someone needs to sell me Battletoads!

I've been playing lots of NES Jackal the past few weeks...cool pick. I hope that remake is on its way, too.

Are we going to play Phantasy Star 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.?

In any case, I can see at least one podcast devoted to one of these picks.

One question, though - how accessible are the Jan/Feb games outside the original NES carts or emulators? I thought part of the point was to look for things that have been ported a few times over...

Actually, Battletoads was on the NES, Genesis, Game Gear, Amiga, Amiga CD32, and the Game Boy, where it was called Battletoads in Ragnarok's World(Battletoads on the Game Boy is actually a different game).

Jackal has seen released on the NES, PC, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, the Family Computer Disk System, and cell phones. Jackal is also available in the PC title Konami Collectors' Series: Castlevania & Contra.

It's possible to play both on other consoles on the NES, though Jackal would be the less accessible of the two. As for Battletoads, well, there's always Battletoads & Double Dragon, or Battletoads in Battlemaniacs if you don't have access to the original.

Then we'd be even more limited in who has access, as KI was only ported to SNES and Game Boy, and I couldn't really recommend the Game Boy port.

Maybe, but it's missing my favorite character.

Cinder. It's also part of the reason I prefer Killer Instinct to Killer Instinct 2 or Gold.
