And Ack, I guess it's not your style or something? When I first discovered grabbing as a little kid, I just liked it. I just flowed and adapted to it fast. Now, it's pretty natural for me. I know the range of the grab, and some situations of when to use it in.
Chun Li and Guile also have mid-air grabs. But I really miss the SF2-style Forward+HP/HK for the grabs. I still haven't gotten used to the new style of intentional grabs.

Lately my style has been to get kicked in the face, punched in the gut, thrown to the ground, and ultra combo'd.

How the hell is everyone online so damn good?!

They probably play it a lot and that is the reason I'm not very good at certain fighting games. I don't "master" the game like most people do. I kick ass at SF2, but I'm not very at SF3 and KI. I should try different characters.

Expanding your characters can help you greatly. Not only will you be able to maybe switch characters to throw your opponent off, but you'll know more about that character so you have an idea of what might come next.
Well, that's how I look at it. I play as everyone in Guilty Gear, so I'm a jack of all trades type. I may not specialize in any characters, except for a few, but I can switch characters to maybe make things easier on me.

There are no practical styles that use such a technique. Some Chinese styles using a jian use the sword as a blocking device in forms, but it is really not a good or practical technique. Other than using the flat of the blade against your forearm to block, I can think of no other reason (except that it looks kind of flashy) to do that.
Thanks.

I tend to block a lot and do small moves until I'm able to do an Ultra or Super or whatever combo.

It should be noted that I have never won an online match of any fighting game. :)

Stay shitty at Street Fighter 4, otherwise the online just sucks!

Finally getting to the point that simply winning isn't enough and its time to practice execution of harder stuff on real people. Been trying to add a little flash to my game in other words. Adding several hits to every combo really could add up in REAL matches offline too. Hit up training mode for a month and got Balrogs bread and butter combo's at about 90% execution. Anything past 2 EX Rush Upper loops in a combo and I didn't learn it. The damage scaling makes it useless.

So I get online to practice and damn. Guess I wasn't good enough to notice how bad the lag really is on SF4 and every fighter. I can do dash forward > ultra with Rog' all day in training mode but online its just seems near impossible. Even easy links like the Rush Upper loops are just too risky. Try the same stuff offline with a crew really good local players and they come out like butter. Wish we could play offline all the time, but its all old men and college kids with lives and opposing schedules.

Too bad, because there is less opportunity to find out when these tactic actually work against high level players. Not only can I not pull them off, but the other guy has gimped reaction time due to lag so there is no way to judge whether your successful attempts were just lag aided. You can learn a lot of cool matchup info and find out the general strategies of the game online for sure. Just not much more.
