I always thought of the Dynasty Warriors games a 3D hack and slashes.

I liked Dynasty Warriors: Gundam.

How the hell can I forget? I've also beaten Viewtiful Joe, one of my most favorite games. Working on Viewtiful Joe 2, but I think that the first one is one of Clover Studio's best games. What one hell of a beat-em-up.

I always thought that Viewtiful Joe was a platformer. :? It's been awhile, though.

I beat Viewtiful Joe as well. It is a bit platformy, but you do actually beat people up with your fists and feat while collecting food items along the way to heal. So it has beat'em up elements to it, but it seems like sort of a hybrid game. The powers you use in that game really make it something much more than a standard beat'em up

I want to also mention X-Men Origins:Wolverine. I loved that game and actually jumped back into it after beating it. One of my favorite moments has you run into a room and then a guy all the way on the other end of the room starts shooting at you while some robots come in behind you to ambush you. After literally tearing the robots apart, I advanced on this guy who is desparately trying to keep Wolverine back with gun fire, grabbed him with one arm and threw him out the window behind him, sending him plummeting to his demise. The game is full of badass moments.

Also, I finished Dead Rising recently. It actually does feel a bit more like a beat'em up/hack n slash game than a survivial horror game. You learn melee and grab attacks as you level, you use food items to heal, you're constantly surrounded by hordes of enemies and most of the time melee weapons are most effective which means you do a lot of "hack n slashing" throughout the game.

Off the top of my head: Streets of Rage (Genesis), Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis), Double Dragon (SMS), Double Dragon II (NES), Growl (arcade), Knights of the Round (arcade), Golden Axe (arcade/Genesis/SMS), Golden Axe II (Genesis), Final Fight (arcade), The Ninja Kids (arcade), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (arcade), Captain Commando (arcade)... there are probably some more, I just can't think of them at the moment.
