Retro books

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello

Since you guys are retro, I guess you are like me liking everything old.
I just want to ask if any one is in retro books.

Now retro in videogames are 10-20 year old ones, but books existed like thousands BC.

I am looking really for books around the 80's and 90's from my childhood for nostalgia effect. In specific I am looking for books from Scholastic and Puffin, they used to give us those brochures to order from and it used to be cool.
They had us ordering stuff like Magic Eye, Goosebumps, and The Babysitters Club.

I can't recall all the books, but I can remember some like the above.
Any one know any place where I can get them?

I can find the ones I remember on Amazon of course, but its very important to have the original cover.
For example, on Amazon I found The Hatchet with this book cover:

but I want this book cover, as this was the one we used when I was younger:

is there like an option to order which book cover you want, or ask the seller?

Do you know of any community where I can find them sharing information about books over that period of time?

I work as a book pricer at a thrift store, so we get lots of cool old books. I've been collecting my favourite books from my childhood, as well as some that my girlfriend used to own.

I'm also an English Lit. major, so I read a lot. I collect old Penguin paperbacks mostly. I have almost all of the books in the Penguin Modern Poets series from the late 60s (There's only about 20 something of them). I've also started collecting the anniversary Penguin 60s books, and the Penguin 70s. Plus just any old Penguin novels of Penguin classics from the 80s and older.

There is really no end to the geeky things I collect. Comics books, novels, video games, Playmobil figurines, records, movies, National Geographic...

I recently went back and bought some extra cheap "Choose your own Adventure" books from the used bookstore. One of them was even a Zork book.

Also, with the Fighting Fantasy game on the DS it came with the original book. Fun times!

Childrens literature is great. It was nice when they were just happy that you read, and didn't bore you to death interpeting symbols. You know what the hatchet in Hatchet symbolizes? A mother fucking hatchet.

One series I really liked was the Chronicles of Prydian (the Black Cauldron) by Lloyd Alexander. Anyone else read that one? There was a pretty good Sierra AGI adventure game made from it. (and a middling Disney movie).

I did! I also really enjoyed that series. I think my favorite Lloyd Alexander book, however, was "The First Two Lives of Lukas-Kasha".

I have the original hardcover version. I think I stole it from middle school.

You might consider looking up the Caldecott and Newbery award winners from those two decades, as they tend to get lots of media exposure, even around the world. It's likely you've read at least one of them.
