But they don't. They expect people to have broken, lost, or sold the controllers long before needing to replace the battery. Almost all companies that sell products expect you to accidentally break their product out of warranty or upgrade long before its actual usefulness is over.

That's how all these new Rock Band controllers worked. It was a pain in the ass, but nothing major.

If she wanted to say that expecting your customers to unscrew it is ridiculous, she should have said that. Maybe then she wouldn't look like an idiot.

Regardless, I've had a PS3 controller for a little over two years and haven't had it lose its charge yet. I tend to play my PS3 at least once a day, so it has had its fair share of use.

I'm not the only person that actually loves the Dualshock 3 right?
I get a little ticked when my brother's wiimotes die out and we spend a minute or two having to go find the batteries and replace them.
I love the fact that I can recharge it, unplug it, and go all the way across my living room to make better use of my HDTV. And way far down the line when my battery does die out and can no longer hold a charge, I'll just buy a new one. Hell, something might happen to it before the battery dies that'll make me need a new one anyway.
I also loved the conversion to GBA to GBASP and DS, because I can charge it and don't have to buy a load of batteries anymore. But that's just me.

I also like the fact that if you have a long enough USB cable the Sixaxis/Dual Shock 3 converts into a wired controller & transmits the data over the cable. At least that way when the PS3 is retro in 10 years we can still have functional controllers.

Pretty much anyone who gets involved with a PS3 right now probably wont have battery issues for 3+ years down the line. By that time the next big thing should be out and controllers will probably cost less than $55. People who are still playing PS3 after that wont have any problem unscrewing a controller to replace a battery.

Like some commenters said, I don't think the author was saying that it is impossible to recharge, just that it is ridiculous to be unable to swap the batteries of a $55 dollar product when it eventually dies permanently. The fact that it won't die but in the "far-flung future" is completely beside the point.

Then that makes it all the more hilarious. You CAN replace the rechargeable battery! It's not 'glued shut', it's 'screwed shut'!

I bet you're the type who thinks that having to open up the case of the Odyssey^2 to change the RF switch from channel 3 to channel 4 is bad design as well.
