Are you HARDCORE?
Are you HARDCORE?
Got Dragon Age Origins last night for PS3. It's great! Picked the Nightmare difficulty to start out. Then I started thinking.... I always select the hardest difficulty on every game I play. This certainly slows things down for me because I can't "sleepwalk" through games but god I love the challenge.
Sometimes I have my regrets, (R-Type Final on hardest difficulty, F-Zero on Gamecube) and this is why I probably jump from game to game so much. But I never soften and go on normal, or easy.
Anyone else always pick the hardest difficulty from the start and never turn back?

Re: Are you HARDCORE?
My view is that games were created to be played on standard difficulty. I will run through a game on standard then go up or down as I see fit. So by your standard, no I am not hardcore.

I will ONLY play a game on normal, beat it, THEN go for nightmare. This gives me enough time to get to know the game, master the controllers, and then own the hell out of it.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

Re: Are you HARDCORE?
No, I usually play on the easiest or normal. If there's some sort of achievement for the hard mode, I'll do it on my 2nd playthrough.
Re: Are you HARDCORE?
I rarely bump up the difficulty. Generally I just beat the game on the standard difficulty and then think if it's worth it to try it on very hard. Sometimes I even like the game a lot, but I simply think playing the game in another difficulty would just detract from the experience (such was the case of Shadow of the Colossus).
Re: Are you HARDCORE?
for me its the same. i never go on hard untill i complete the game. but i also never go on easy unless normal is really really hard (lets face it, we do get games like this just not often).

Re: Are you HARDCORE?
I can't stand easy mode on most games, but selecting the hardest mode available often pisses me off so much that I can't enjoy the game. Definitely normal mode for me (unless i think i'm badass at a game i.e. tetris attack).

Re: Are you HARDCORE?
The only game(s) I play on high difficulties is the Tony Hawk series, because later on in the series it just become so damn easy, even the highest difficulty (Sick) is too bloody easy!

Re: Are you HARDCORE?
I play my way through in standard/normal and then bump up the difficulty if I think its worth playing again. Especially if there is some type of reward for doing it in a harder mode.

Re: Are you HARDCORE?
Yeah, that's typically what I do, or I'll mess around with the difficulty, especially if there are different unlockables. For instance, Silent Hill 3's Very Easy mode could only be unlocked by dying so many times on Easy Mode...so I played Easy and got myself killed to unlock it.8-bit Legend wrote:I play my way through in standard/normal and then bump up the difficulty if I think its worth playing again.
