Is this a rare/valuable game?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Is this a rare/valuable game?

Post by MattyP »

I have in my possession a copy of Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt for the NES,
unfortunately without a box or a manual. However, when I compared this copy to
the others that I've seen, I noticed a few things different...

For one, the color around the images of the games is dark blue, not black. The
oval Nintendo symbol and the words "Entertainment System" are arranged across
the middle of the titles, and not on the bottom. Most noticeably, though, is
that the game DOES NOT HAVE a "Nintendo Seal of Quality"... The picture shows the game in question on the left, compared to the more common copy on the right.

Do I have a gem? I've searched online about this issue, but I can't find much information... Any details would be great! Thanks!

Could be a pirated copy or a repro cart. I've honestly never seen one like that before.

Don't quote me 100% but I don't think I've seen that before either. I have (literally) around 350 copies of Mario, Mario/Duck Hunt, and Mario/Duck Hunt/Track boxed up [cartridge only]. I'll break them out and sift through some of the stacks to see if I notice anything similar to yours.

Oh gosh, I'm getting giddy like a little girl. lol
Another difference: This copy has an entire row of contacts, whereas most NES games are "missing" a few in the middle.
I e-mailed RacketBoy, and he said he's never seen anything like this either.
This is exciting! The fact that no one has seen one like this is special. I don't really care if it's worth anything more than a "normal" copy, it's pretty cool!
By the way, the game works great. I don't notice any differences playing the game.

So open it up and take some pictures of the inside.

I have had 2 that way, and being what it is....reguardless rare or not, the value would be instead of 2$...4$...

You cant really have anything rare thats still sitting with EVERYTHING nes console in america. I dont even have a nes anymore and I still have 2 copies upstairs. On a brighter note, I am about to shoot you a pm reguarding some stuff.

This reminds me of Wonder Boy in Monsterland where some of the carts say Super Wonder Boy Super Monsterland. But that copy looks like a bootleg to me but it could be the original pressing when the system was released only in New York as a test run.

I could get a lot of them out, I suppose, and take a picture. They've been in a garage forever now so not all of them are in the best of condition. Haha.. It was a gimmick thing a long time ago.
