that would had shook the 16 bit war a little bit. Fighting games was on a high mode during that era. Plus NEC/TTI would had gotten more attention, but I think the result of the 16 bit war winner would remain the same.Breetai wrote:WHAT IF...
NEC/TTI got the exclusive rights to release Street Fighter II in North America (therefore it being the ONLY system to have SSII for at least a few years), and the Turbographx-16 overtook both the SNES and the Genesis as a result, giving the Turbo a 50% plus market share?

Re: WHAT IF!
I'm not sure. SFII was announced for the SNES when? Sometimes in late 1991 I'm guessing? Released in 1992. Street Fighter II for the SNES was Capcom's best selling game ever. It was absolutely huge. In mid-1992, the Genesis and SNES were about even. The SNES didn't take the lead until late-1994/1995. Street Fighter II, in my opinion, was absolutely essential for Nintendo to keep the pace in 1992/93. Take that away, and the Genesis, especially with it making Nintendo look like a kids toy when Mortal Kombat came out, and you've got the Genesis most likely substantially ahead of the SNES in sales for 1992, '93 and '94. But, because the TG-16 is the only place you're going to find SFII, that brings the third system into the mix. Heck, if the TG-16 would've been popular, MK might've even came out on it. After other companies saw SFII selling well, they would've brought some of the Japan-exclusives over the sea. Perhaps the Komami games (Gradius I and II, Parodius, Life Force, Dracula X), other great action games and more RPGs like the Far East of Eden series and Ys IV come over. A lot of these would've came over in 1992/93. Most of the real killer-apps for the SNES didn't come out until 1994/95 (DKC, Starfox, Super Metroid, Yoshi's Island, etc.). The 16-bit console race could've easily been completely different. I think Street Fighter II was possibly the key to the 16-bit race.sevin0seven wrote:that would had shook the 16 bit war a little bit. Fighting games was on a high mode during that era. What if someone actually marries their console legally?

Oh, that one is true, actually. It's sort of like saying "What if bean sprouts didn't taste good" or something.Limewater wrote:What if Diet Dr. Pepper didn't taste like regular Dr. Pepper?
