I didn't mean to give the impression I've had a bunch of bad CL trades. All my bad ones have been people that say they want something from me but never show up. Well I take that back. I drove 30 minutes to pick up a my first Dreamcast after agreeing on a meet and they wouldn't come to the door of the apartment. It was the middle of the day and I could hear people inside, but they didn't answer the door. *shrug*

I usually meet people at Tim Horton's or McDonald's to make deals like that. That way I can get a coffee too. And no mugging, which is a plus.

I picked a musical instrument store to meet up, I need to pick up a capo too. We are meeting 10 am wednsday. Hopefully it won't be scary. If I can I always try to talk to the seller on the phone to get a feel for them.

So you automatically go in with heat? That is a little messed up.

On a serious note I have done a lot of business on Craigslist without any real problems.
That's not messed up at all. The worst possible situation in selling a game would be fixed by this. Imagine this scenario, you meet someone to buy a game and they have the game but give some bs and say ok give me your wallet. You show / put your hand on the butt of the gun so they can see it and say no you need to leave.

Nobody who is out to rob "stereotypical" gamers over their $20 for a used game is going to see a gun and start anything, end of story.

Just did one today. The best way to keep yourself protect when doing this deal is to meet up in place where they is a lot of people. In all my years buying video games, most of my transaction are good. I try not to meet up very late at night because I don't like the idea of going there at night and having to worry of what can happened when they is no people around. I did some trade in other people home which isn't too bad. Hell, one was very good as I manage to grab tons of good games in mint condition.

If I am meeting somewhere I only keep the exact amount I am paying in my wallet. I have had people meet at my house (i didnt let them in, met them with what they were buying outside) I have met at public places (ususally the preference,) an have also traveled to other peoples homes. I ususally keep a day or two of dialouge going with a buyer or seller until I am willing to meet them. Most scammers arent going to keep answering question after question, or give you their phone number. Whenever I am making these transactions I always try to be very aware of my surroundings. I have, fortunately, had no problems and have made many dozen transactions, both large and small, as a buyer and seller on CL

Charlton Heston would be proud. But me, well I'm just concerned.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Culture of fear indeed.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.
