Are you scared?

Post by lost_within »

Well, after just losing interest in a game due to the fact that its no more than 20 minutes from me...and the person trying to charge me 5$ for shipping....I figured I should ask... How many of you are scared to let people you dont know meet you somewhere for a pickup? Of course I have driven to pick up a sale and drop off a trade for 2 members...and countless ps3 swaps locally...but how many of you just refuse to all hell, to EVER do business face to face? Even if its 3 houses down?
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

I'm not scared if its a deal, I've went to houses and met in public places as well.

I got a ton of stuff from craigslist. I have no risk of being kidnapped, my friend Rach thinks I'm crazy

Usually not scared if we meet at a public place we both know. Most of the time the deal takes 30 seconds and you're done.

I am however sometimes paranoid about picking up stuff at someone's house or (more so) them coming to my house to pick something up. The only time I ever do this is when it's a TV/console that either they or you want to see working before you hand over the money.

I have a concealed weapons permit, no need to be afraid.

I'm not afraid to do local trades in person. I'll shoot them if they try to rip me off.

So you automatically go in with heat? That is a little messed up.

On a serious note I have done a lot of business on Craigslist without any real problems.

I'm not scared, but I don't want random people to get any ideas after seeing game stuff. When I've had people picking up CL stuff from me I usually carry it out to the walk out gate since otherwise I've got to let them in the gate and tell them where to go in my complex anyway. I might as well walk out there. When I sold my old bed and dressers I took it all outside my door when they said they were on the way so we wouldn't be going in and out. For picking things up from other people, most of the time I end up meeting someone at some neutral place or public/well lit parking lot. Last 2 times were at Starbucks.

Only once was I concerned over a pickup. I had a friend with me who stayed in the car. The house was in a nice neighborhood and looked ok from outside, but the house had 3 or 4 stereotypical frat boy types living in it and the house was trashed. The bottom of the front door had been kicked from the inside and was nearly busted through. The carpet on the stairs was black from dirt. There was really stupid juvenile shit scrawled all over the walls and holes in the sheetrock everywhere. The guy's room had horrible stains all over the floor and he was sleeping on a little crusty mattress mattress on the floor with no sheets, just a blanket and pillow.

The house will probably have to be completely gutted and redone to be sold. It was a serious shithole inside. I've seen abandoned buildings and houses that looked better.

Don't be scared, unless he invites you to Uncle Touchy's Naked Puzzle Basement. If he does, RUN!

A Canal Fulton man was robbed of $200 after meeting with a man who offered to sell him a laptop computer.
The victim, 28, told Akron police that he met the man at an East Waterloo Road business about 11 p.m. Wednesday to close the deal for the item he learned about on Craigslist.
When the man handed the seller $200, however, the suspect pointed a weapon and said: ''Don't get yourself killed over this.''
The suspect drove off, and the Canal Fulton man followed, calling police while trailing the suspect.
A short time later, Akron police officers stopped Courtney Brown, 21, of Akron in the 600 block of East Market Street. They recovered the cash and the computer, which turned out to be stolen during a recent burglary in North Hill.

Why would you meet a stranger at 11pm? He deserved to be robbed.
