Saturn Drive will not Spin at all

Post by Fiercegaming »

I installed the chip via the AB method, but I first tried to solder to the 14 pin, but I think I just screwed over the 32 pin IC chip, because the saturn disk drive will not spin a CD, even with the chip completely out? Any help would be great, I hope I didn't screw over the whole drive. If this helps, I took out the back cover and noticed there is not battery back there, would this make the drive not spin?

Okay, I got the drive to spin, (lucky) I resoldered one of the chip pins to the path and she works. I reinstalled the mod chip using the AB method. I put in a burned backup and it loads as an audio CD. Any help would be great.

thanks

No I have not tried the other way yet, I tried to solder to the 14th pin, but totally hoarked up the chip. I fixed it though, and the disk now spins. I am kinda afraid to solder to the 14th pin since, I just fixed that pin. Anyway, once I take the chip out orginal games work fine. But when I add the chip, it just plays as an audio disk. I think I am going to try to solder it to the 14th pin, this time be very very carful. I hope this will work.

Well I tested it on the 14th pin of the IC chip and it still loads all games even orginal games as an audio file. I think the mod chip does work. I have tried burning the games multiple ways, I have tried installing the chip mutliple ways, it appears that nothing works. I even tried soldering to another pin on the power supply....Any suggestions?

I'm guessing that line "I think the mod chip does work" was a typo?
Anyway, while it sounds out of the ordinary, I'll go ahead and replace it for you.

I'm out of them today, but I should have more in a few days.

Email me for details.

No spin problem with 32-pin

Post by mrb2004 »

Hi,

I'm having the same problem.

It is a 32-pin IC Saturn, 21-conductor CD cable. With the modchip installed, the CD drive won't spin at all, I get no boot animation, and I get green boxes with "Checking disc format" regardless of the drive-door button.

I installed the modchip using the A-B method first, then tried removing the bridge and soldering the signal line to pin 14. I also tried filing edges down to help ensure it was making a connection, still no go. I checked for improper connections and good continuity, everything looks good, chip gets 5V. If I remove the chip, the Saturn works fine.

Any ideas? I've scoured this forum and google to try to find any similar problems, with no real resolution. I took some pics, also, for eye candy:

Same problem for me, except that mine worked intermittently for a day, then stopped. I soldered to pin 14 first. Anyone else had this problem?
