Re: Together Retro: Broken Sword
I dont know if this was mentioned in the intro but both Beneath Steel Sky and Lure of the Temptress are available for free off of Good Old Games. I was unaware of Lure until I was righting the article and I will be playing it once I finish the directors cut on the Wii. The only downside to the Wii version is that there are spinning puzzles that are just infuriatingly hard to complete and there are two of them.

I'm new around here and I'd love to get involved in some "Together Retro" goodness. I don't want to bother with the hassle of playing PC on my Mac so my question for you guys: Broken Sword on Wii...is it worth it? I see it also has bonus content. I may pick it up from the store tomorrow.
Re: Together Retro: Broken Sword
SCUMMVM is compatible with nearly every system ever. You can get a version for OS X. I use macs on a day to day basis so if you have any problems let me know.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/scummvm ... g/download
Just install that and get a PC version broken sword. Once you load up SCUMMVM navigate to the folder where broken sword is (on the CD is fine, or you can copy it to your hard drive) then scummvm will recognise the game, set your save directory (it's important to choose somewhere in documents or desktop or something where it's not write protected) and then you can run broken sword.
Depending on the version it may or may not play the movies because their in a strange proprietry format that SCUMMVM is incompatible with. If the videos don't play you can download them from here put them in your movies directory inside the broken sword directory.

Steam has Broken Sword 2 but aren't those screen shots from the first one?

Right on the nose booger - the killer clown is the opening from the first one. My biggest dislike of the directors cut is that that is not the opening scene. When I first played the game I was hooked after that intro.

Re: Together Retro: Broken Sword
Based on the screen shots and the title I'm wondering which one Steam is really selling?
Re: Together Retro: Broken Sword
Also, is it just me or are those 'screenshots' really hi-res?
Personally I think they're press images from the first game that has somehow been used as promotion for this version on Steam.
Although if that's how it actually does look on this particular version I might be tempted to buy it again.
I agree, fastbilly1, the director's cut really put me off with how the game opens. I think I would prefer to play as George first, rather than Nicol. That opening scene is epic. Then again, im biased as I've played the first one so many times.
Also, if anybody has an iPhone, Beneath a Steel Sky has been remastered and released on the app store. The new interface looks really good. Sure as hell beats trying to play SCUMMVM on my jailbroken iPhone. Half the time you're just pressing the same thing over and over again hoping it selects what you're pressing on.

Re: Together Retro: Broken Sword
so like I said, I am attempting this non-faq. BUT, I had a bit of a scare. A new spot landed on the map, so I went to it and then realized I was in Spain! So then I got real freaked cuz I was convinced that I had just triggered the infamous Spain/Syria glitch (GBA version). Because of that, I HAD to check out a faq to see what I could do. Lucky for me, it was not the glitch, though I had landed in Spain a bit prematurely. I managed to get my ass out of Spain and back to Paris -- only to end up shot by Guido. G'damn. It's funny that the game has some humor to it, and then next thing I know I'm shot in the chest and buried by the mob...

Dying was never something I disliked in Adventure games, it keeps you on your toes a bit knowing that you can die.
I hate dead ends in adventure games (Use and item when your not meant to = dead end, etc) like Sierra had back in the day, pissed me off so much. Lucas Arts fixed it though (And got rid of dying, if you dont count going for a 10 minute swim in Monkey Island).
