Specifically the back label is the easiest to tell. There should be a 2 or 3 digit number physically stamped in the back label.

Solution to not having a security bit or a scredriver: paper clip.

Front
The chip on this side reads D411A (C) 1990 Nintendo 9424 BA
Back
The chips from left to right read 2H2T HC139, CXK58257AM-70L 430L82EW, Sanyo LE280W3218AM -80 6GG0N

Sorry they're really blurry, I can (and will) enter what's on the chips after I post this. I'll edit it so I can.

For SURE it's a fake!

But fake games can work from beginning to end just fine (I'm proof of that). Try and test the battery with a volt meter. Let's see if that really is the problem or not.

And those aren't EPROMs, those are surface mounted flash chips. So this negates everything I said in my first posts about the EPROMs.

Yeah it's definitely a fake but will it still play entirely or do you think there's a point where it'll just end?

EDIT: I feel retarded even asking the question in this post, hah. I checked the back label (I saw an earlier post of yours regarding the back label when doing research about this) and it does have the numbers imprinted on the back so I thought it'd be safe.

Whoa, this thread is moving too fast for me. I edited my last post.

The chip on the front (which is actually the back) looks like it is an official Nintendo lockout chip, the rest of them are just flash chips, well except for the one that's taking the place of the MAD-1.

Well it's a real cart case then. They had to get a lockout chip from a real SNES game, so they probably just got some crappy old $1 games for the chip and case.

I don't have a volt meter on me and I don't think anyone I know has one. I might know where I can find one but it'll be a week before I can get to it. But thank you for your help and thank you for reassuring me that the game should be able to go the whole way. At least now I know that it should work if I replace the battery.

Wait, when I opened it what I claim was the front was behind the front label. This is a silly question but do you think turning it around would make any difference?

EDIT: Actually I can't turn it around because then it won't fit in the cart. I forgot that I tried that the first time I opened the cart.

you should be able to get a voltmeter at radio shack.

Yeah, it's the front of the PCB. The front/top side faces the back of the cart shell. If you were able to turn it around, it would damage the game or the system, if not both.

That's hard to say. I've heard of some instances (Earthbound 0) where the game locks up on you and gives you a pirate message. However, there's no reason why it shouldn't work. I think Chrono Trigger was translated into French or German, and I've seen that ROM on a cart before. I've made 32Mbit games run on "pirated" carts before that work just fine beginning to end.

Or any Wal Mart type of store, or any local hardware store. They're relatively cheap and good to have around for many reasons.

EDIT: Yes, I knew it. Here's a French translated copy of Chrono Trigger that some one put on a cart...

Proof that yours should work alright as long as it was made right.
