They are about the only wrestling federation watched world-wide(talk about a monopoly!?)
They make movies
they have 3 shows a week!
and every show they get a full house!
btw, any one ever thought since wrestling is such a big business why no one is competing against WWE?
I know someone will say TNA, and even though WWE can probably buy TNA with its petty cash, 2 companies for 6 billion is a very very low competition.
I like the WWE and wrestling in general. The WWE have been around a long time, they avoided some huge mistakes that other federations have made like ECW and WCW. They were smart enough to know who to copy(mostly ECW)and so they have lasted a long time. Vince has made tons of money for marketing and advertising and his company has had much exposture over the years, including many celebrities who have appeared in the WWE at one point or another. He's a smart businessman and he thinks outside the box, he broke all the rules years ago and that is why he's been more successful than anyone else in the wrestling business. That's not to say he hasn't done stupid things over the past couple years(and still does on a regular basis), but he's made the right choices at the right times over the years. The WWE is a big corporation now. it will takes lots of money to seriously compete with them, which TNA doesn't have but Ted Turner did years ago when he funded the only REAL competition the WWE ever had, which was WCW
As for those people who turn their noses up at wrestling as being "stupid" entertainment. It certainly is at times. Personally though, I love seeing the incredible feats of athleticism. I respect how these guys put their bodies on the line more than athletes from real sports do(and yes, they DO). I love the choreographed dance that a good wrestling match is, not to mention how well some guys can tell a story in the ring. I also love the interactivity. The wrestling business has more interactivity with the audience than any real sports event ever will. And generally speaking, most wrestlers are far more down to earth and fan friendly than a lot of real athletes. I also love the characters and stories they tell. It's not on the same level as a well written drama or novel and a lot of these guys aren't superb actors, but they don't need to be. This isn't cable tv or a Hollywood movie.
That's not to say that I haven't seen a lot of REALLY stupid things in pro wrestling. It's downright embarrassing at times, but I love it for all of the above mentioned reasons. I love the shows they put on, the spectacle of it all, and the way they ALWAYS acknowledge the audience and make them part of the entertainment. It's like a carnival or circus in a way. I have never liked REAL sports. It's all just numbers and scores and obsessing over whether or not your team wins even though with all the trading and changes that go on it's likely whatever team you support probably isn't even the same team you originally became a fan of. While I can enjoy following my fave wrestlers careers over the years as they move up in popularity and win titles.
As for the whole wrestling is for kids thing. That was only true in the eighties. That all changed in the nineties during the so called "attitude era" of the WWE, while now and days the company seems to be targeting a sort of middle ground. ECW on the other hand was NEVER for kids in any way shape or form, until they died and were then resurrected under WWE ownership. Unfortunately, the WWE pretty much stripped ECW of its entire entity and now it's really just another WWE show
I'm sure most of you don't care about any of this, but I know there are a couple of wrestling fans on this forum and I'm not just referring to WWE fans, although that's mostly what I follow
