Games that take you for a ride on the roflcopter

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Games that take you for a ride on the roflcopter

Post by J T »

Videogames don't seem to do humor very well that often, but I occassionally like a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. I'm looking for recommnedations for some comedy videogames.

Here's a few that have made me laugh out loud:

Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar (I think Ack introduced me to this)

Ben There, Dan That

Tropico 3

There are lots of great, funny adventure games.

The Leisure Suit Larry games
The Space Quest Series
Sam & Max Hit the Road
Sam & Max Season 1 and Season 2
The Monkey Island series.
Grim Fandango
Maniac Mansion
Day of the Tentacle

But for other genres, I agree that they don't tend to do comedy very well. Apart from the above games, the only other one I can think of off the top of my head that I really laughed at was Conker's Bad Fur Day, and even there I didn't think most of the gags were that good.

Yeah, it seems like Lucas Arts and/or Tim Schafer games are about the only games that really go for comedic value.

...although, Katamari Damacy was funny for it's insanity.

There are other games that try to be funny. They just don't typically succeed, in my eyes.

Boogerman
Most older Simpsons games (allegedly a couple of newer ones are funny)
Two Crude Dudes
Earthworm Jim has its moments, but overall I just can't find a platformer that funny.
I got a few smiles out of Wario Ware Inc., but never really more than a smile.

Here is an older article on humor in games:

That article was a good read. Maybe I'll have to give Bard's Tale a chance. I've seen it at the local pawn shop for like $2.

The one thing I still find funny from Earthworm Jim is Professor Monkey-for-a-head.

Am I the only person that found Fallout 3 funny. I remember reading the options for my responses and some of them were soo outrageous I laughed before I even said them and was able to hear the other persons response.
