Xbox softmod tutorial?

Post by jp1 »

So, the softmod memory card I rented from vlame came in the mail today. I have splinter cell. Now, does anyone know where I can find the best/most current tutorial for softmodding? I want the easiest to use dashboard since this will be set up for my 10 year old son.

you can start here for some help:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showforum=44

or here:

Or try searching for a program called slayers Auto Install Disk. I think the latest and final version is 4.2.

hope this helps. I had someone do mine for me way back when. i started reading about TSOP flashing and eeproms. It made my head hurt very much.

Just use AutoInstaller Deluxe. It comes with Softmod Installer Deluxe which can exploit ANY Xbox. I just modded a very late model 1.6 xbox with it. Very easy. It has an extensive manual too. It does everything for you, the days of headache inducing softmods are over.

I haven't done this on my softmodded Xbox yet, but I'd recommend using XBMC as your dashboard. There's really nothing the other dashboards do that XBMC doesn't. My GF's 7 year old daughter has no problem launching Pokemon games from Xboyadvance through XBMC.

I used this tutorial for softmodding. Quite straightforward. XBMC is nice as a media centre and can be easily obtained from here. Use the test dash function in Krayzie's Extras to make sure it works before going on and replace the dash. If you are going a step further and upgrading your xbox harddisk, follow this tutorial.

Most important!!! Backup your eeprom before you do anything. It's your saving grace if anything goes wrong.

Done. That was painless. Now, if I can just work up the nerve to try and upgrade the hard drive.

Glad to hear you got it going! I'm eventually going to upgrade my hard drive as well. I just need to get the time and will to actually do it.

Thanks. I wanted to do the hard drive right away because I have the thompson drive but surprisingly every disc I have put in it has worked perfectly. Still it would be nice to have some room for emulators and stuff.

For a softmod, it's probably riskier (never tried it myself) but with a hard-mod, it's a must. I have a 500GB drive loaded with all of my games and movies. It's a portable media center since at my in-laws summer place, we don't have cable/satellite.
