I feel similar. I do kind of like them, but not to the degree that other electronic music junkies do. I get that the whole thing about how their sound has a sort of future-primitive feel to it, like they are ancient dug up recordings from some advanced alien race that left them on our planet millions of years ago... it's just that I ultimately find them a little boring. I mainly just listen to them to study to and have something good, but not distracting in the background.

My natural inclination is think that all of the music I listen to is from the 90s and that I don't enjoy new music. And after jogging my mind it is obvious, to me, that there have been some great albums released this decade. In recent years I am getting very excited with new music as there seems to be a rekindled interest in lo fi/indie pop/rock and labels like Slumberland are having a renassiance of sorts. Bands like Vivian girls, Brilliant Colors, Grass Widow, Wavves, Cause Co-Motion, Sandy City, Only Ghost in Town, etc. etc. have all released some really awesome music but some of it is too new for me to add to a greatest of the decade list.

In no particular order here is my list, though I set a rule for myself-one album per band.

-Sun Kil Moon "Ghosts of the Great Highway"
-Explosions in the Sky "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place"
-Sonic Youth "Murray Street"
-M83 "Before the Dawn Heals Us"
-Cease Upon the Capitol "untitled" (2nd album)
-Beachwood Sparks "Once We Were Trees"
-The Mountain Goats "All Hail West Texas"
-Karate "Some Boots"
-North of America "Brothers, Sisters"
-Mission of Burma "OnOffOn"
-The Shins "Oh Inverted World"
-The Good Good "A Fem Era"
-I Hate Myself "3 Songs"
-The Twilight Singers "Powder Burns"
-Life at These Speeds "To Your Health"
-Pedro the Lion "Control"
-The Softies "Holiday in Rhode Island"
-Blonde Redhead "Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons"
-Sigur Ros "Takk"
-United States "Divorce Songs" (biased because I released this on my label,, but I stand behind it firmly)
-Loma Prieta "Last City" (same as above)
-The Holy Shroud "Ghost Repeaters"
-Unwound "Leaves Turn Inside You"
-Big Business "Head For the Shallow
-Daitro "Laisser Vivre Les Squelettes"
-Yo La Tengo "And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out"
-Latterman "No Matter Where We Go"
-Converge "Jane Doe"
-Half Handed Cloud "We Haven't Just Been Told, We Have Been Loved"
-And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead "Source Tags and Codes"
-Yaphet Kotto "Syncopated Synthetic Laments For Love"
-Les Savy Fav "Go Forth"
-Rainer Maria "Long Knives Drawn"
-Wilco "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"
-The Tyde "Twice"

Not that I need reinforcement to feel better, but that makes me feel better. Every other friend I have that listens to warp/rephlex/idm/whatnot like I do loves them and I just don't.

Threads like this are kind of retarded only because it's peoples personal taste so it's just going to be peoples taste in music.

That's why I like best of lists. I'm not sure why so many people get bothered because no one can come up with the perfect "best of" list that everyone will agree on. I just like to see what other people thiink is good and see where our tastes overlap. From reading these kinds of lists on the forums I have found that I like a lot of similar stuff as Hobie-Wan and Luke, so I pay closer attention when they recommend something that I haven't heard of, because it's probably going to be right up my alley.

Hey now, some of are having discussions and might get some new music because of it. Yes there are lots of differing opinions, but if you see someone else with a lot of things you like in their list, you might find something new.

You could argue that video game lists are just as stupid. I don't like platform games. This means a large portion of people's BEST VIEDO GAMS EVAR!!!! lists are useless to me because I don't like Sonic or Mario games which will always be on them. But hey, unless you want to make a top 2 list of things every human needs and put breathing and eating on it, I think there's gonna be some people's opinion in there.

Hobie, drinking water is way more important than eating man, your opinion is way off.

Food contains water. Water does not necessarily contain nutrients. :P

Anyway, where were we?

Lack of food can take roughly a month to kill you, but dehydration can kill in only a few days!

Sorry, just being difficult. As I've admitted many times before, I'm not very knowledgeable about popular music, and while I tend to like a lot of music, what I want to listen to changes on a monthly basis. Currently, I'm listening to lots of metal, but next month I may be back to funk or 80s rap. Who knows?
