Just a suggestion:

It's your game (well, you and Hobie's game) hold it like you will, but if we have another retro-challenge please, pretty please stop with the games on multiple platforms. It's not challenging, it is extremely annoying, at least to me.

I could give a screen shot of Zelda II, ask what console it is on, and there would be several answers that could be correct. Why frustrate someone into posting:

Zelda II:NES

Zelda II:GBA

Zelda II:GBA Classics

Zelda II: PC via emulator

Zelda II: GameCube

Zelda II: Dreamcast bootleg

And I still can't believe someone put a screenshot of an early Madden game. If you guys find just listing every console and year a game was made challenging, like I said, it is your challenge, and I've stated my opinion.

However, I love the cover art rip offs/"what sound is this"/technical/Riddle me This questions. It's overall a fun challenge, and I enjoy watching it unfold.

I gotta agree with you Luke, where the platform differences aren't very apparent. If a game is multi-platform and you can easily determine which platform it is (because of a noticably reduced color palette or resolution) then I don't see an issue with a multi-platform game.

the guess-the-sound ones are good idea, though if um, y'know... any of us were posting from work, then we might not even have a shot at those...

I understand what you mean. I get a little frustrated when people make guesses in a slow period that they could have spent a minute with a google search to check if their guess matched, but sometimes that's the fun when there's a mad dash with a new question. SO it balances out.

Now in the case of Zelda II, with the exception of GBA where the resolution is different, they should all look the same unless emulator filtering was going on. Obviously most screenshots are going to be from emulator, but we'd likely be using the NES rom to do so, so it would count as NES. For your example I'd say there are only 2 real possibilities, NES and GBA because all of those other options are going to be emulations of the NES rom.

Ports on another system where the graphics are different because of the abilities of the system are another matter. For another example, Gradius II looks pretty similiar between the arcade and PC Engine. But the NES version looks very different. Heck, even the Gradius in Blades of Steel was very different looking. I expected people to make lots of wrong guesses on that one. The fun was that you had to know Blades of Steel in order to get that one right. I didn't choose the Goemon version because it would have been more similiar to other ports. The BoS one had odd coloring compared to most versions.

Anyway, not trying to frustrate you. If you don't like those questions, then skip them. But join us in the others. :D

Right, more sounds from naughty games needed, got it.

Can you hook up headphones if you're on a break? Because really one probably shouldn't be browsing Racket if you're on the clock anyway (me included).
