Actually BoringSupreez, I was in a similar situation with my PC about a year ago. I picked up a new video card on sale at NewEgg for less than $150.00, and upgraded my RAM off a deal at BestBuy, and now I'm able to play more recent games. It's not perfect, and certain games even on low settings can have issues, but it should be able to handle at least some of what you're looking at.
Of course, I still say it comes down to the controller and the genre for me. I prefer third person shooters on consoles, so I bought Mass Effect on the 360. Titles like the Orange Box I prefer on the PC.

$597.91, and that's including Windows 7 Premium 64-bit for $109.99.
I've also seem many great guides for building cheap Crysis-killers in PC Gamer, Maximum PC, etc. It is a lot more money up front than a 360, but with PC games being cheaper and 360 peripherals being jacked up so much in price, it'll more than even out.

Well, first I'm going to have to save up that much money in the first place. I need to upgrade or buy a new PC anyway, so I'll be ditching Command & Conquer 3 for Xbox 360 someday. RTS and FPS games are definitely better on PC than consoles. It'll be nice not to have to run COD 4 in 640x480.

It's all about supply and demand. If it's still at $50, then it must still be selling well. If no one wants to buy it, then the price will drop.

BoringSupreez wrote:the7k wrote:BoringSupreez: The fact that most of the 360's best exclusives aren't really exclusives is the main reason I didn't get a 360. Why get a neutered version of Left 4 Dead or Mass Effect, when you can get the real thing with all the modding potential on a PC? Left 4 Dead without the Macho Man Randy Savage mod isn't Left 4 Dead at all.
I'll tell you why. Because I don't have $900 for a new PC just lying around. The newest game my PC can handle is COD 4 on lowest settings, so I have to get most games for consoles until PCs that can run the games that are new right now have become old and cheap. Once that happens, I sell my console version and get the PC version.
I know it's none of my business, but if money really is an issue then you're really hurting yourself with that strategy. You're absorbing most of the depreciation the game will experience by buying it new on Console, waiting a year, selling it, and buying the PC version.
But again, it's not really my business. Just something to consider.

Re: Best Next-Gen System
Nothing against this thread in particular, but I've noticed an annoying trend lately on the forums - every week we seem to have a few threads that feature a debate over various current-gen consoles. Sometimes they devolve into fanboyism, name calling, etc.
For example, in the last week, we've had:
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=17047
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=17377
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=17379
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=17216
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=17209
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17264
I'll admit, I'm guilty of participating in a few of them as well, but maybe we just need to have a thread where those who want to hash this kind of thing out can do so. In fact, this thread seems like a good candidate! I propose that all future posts arguing about the merits of one console over another should be merged with this thread.
Part of the problem is that these threads often begin as legitimate questions (e.g. "what game should I buy?") that then become a console debate, derailing the focus of the OP. I've always thought that we did a pretty good job here of escaping a lot of the back and forth argument over current-gen consoles that is found in most other forums, so I'd hate to see this trend continue to pick up steam...
Besides, we all know that it is much more valuable to spend our time debating Genesis vs SNES.

Loading in genereal, but more so in portal because it broke the mood. Other than that, I have never come across any "game breaking" bugs. Nothing that made the game unplayable.
I was told so. I only know first hand of the many bugs on TF2 (Like building sentries UNDER the floor or walking on the sky). Some of them were found on the PC version but they got fixed.
I can't picture how some classes work without a mouse (Demoman and Sniper come to mind). Portal seems annoying without it too.

How about a subforum for "current gen" with a rule added to the general forum guidelines stating that most if not all current gen discussion should go there?

Who said I bought them new? I'm usually 2 to 5 years late to the party, so the game is already cheap anyway. So depreciation does almost no harm to me.

Yeah, everyone knows that SNES > Genesis.

I don't know about that in Nintendo's case. They were still charging $30 for SSBM in 2008, and almost no one was buying it at that point.
