Best games of the decade

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Games nowadays remind me of interactive FMV games back in the day. Easy, linear, heavily-scripted and require large budgets to impress the masses. That describes most of the best-selling games.

The best game I HAVE PLAYED SO FAR released in this decade was Metroid Prime.
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.

I believe this is because games are harder to make nowdays. Good graphics, good music, online features, marketing (and probabbly other things I'm forgetting or I didn't know they existed) need a lot of time, money and people to make.

I noticed that you ended up listing the exact things that too many companies seem to focus on these days. Notice that story and gameplay are missing.

Not picking on you Reina, just noting the irony of what you listed.

Personally, I can live without the best graphics and online features, but while I wish story and gameplay were more important, I do like that music is considered important. You ever played a game with crappy music? It genuinely starts to hurt.

If you doubt me, try The Ring: Terror's Realm.

Oh I agree that music and sound effects can ruin a game somewhat, but even if there's no volume control for the music in game, you can at least turn the sound on your device off. Back when I was plying Project Entropia in the beta and 'post beta' *cough sputter* days, there were a few sounds that were terribly loud and annoying. I went and found the sound effect files for the sounds, loaded them into an editor and halved the volume which fixed them. Then I started spreading it around the friends I had in game. Most games that require sound queues to be playable do have good sound though.

I don't agree to what companies focus on games these days myself. But people like us, that want a good gameplay and good background story, are a minority. They make games for the masses, because it brings more profit that way.

I would say anything from Blizzard... Iconic AND great in every category, and to whoever said chrono trigger, that was definitely more than 10 years ago, unless you are referring to the one released on the DS or PS1, which doesn't count

You could say that about pretty much every decade starting with the 80's so far. Back before than, there were years were only 1 or 2 games came out, period.
