Does anybody play Phantasy Star Universe?
Does anybody play Phantasy Star Universe?
I have been playing PSO for some time and after about a years break I thought I would finally give the 'sequel' a try. I have the game for PS2 but so far have found nothing but empty servers...
Re: Does anybody play Phantasy Star Universe?
Phantasy Star Universe is my most played game of all time. I played around 8 thousand hours of the Japanese version over the course of 3 years. It was an excellent game but it pretty much kept getting worse over time. Each new update would make the players stronger and make obtaining powerful items easier, however the monsters didn't improve at all or scale up nearly as fast. It's a 6 player game but it was already absurdly easy for a solo player. Adding more party members would usually slow down your progress. The only remote chance of any challenge was racing to tag the monsters for experience points before they died in literally two seconds or less. Unfortunately, monsters would often die in less than 6 hits so not everyone could get experience. Party play involves constantly leap-frogging your teammates to get to the next room. Bosses would last around 7 seconds, so if you were quick enough you could at least get one hit in before they died. PSU is an online multiplayer game that discourages multiplayer -_-
After I quit PSU, a friend told me to try out a new game called Dungeon Fighter Online. It's free to play but has a cash shop (however DFO's cash shop isn't nearly as horrible as the one in PSU JP version). I tried it out and it was so much more fun and interesting than PSU. Perhaps the coolest part of DFO is the PVP mode. It's extremely well done and very addictive. I strongly suggest you take a little time to try out DFO for free and then compare it to PSU to determine which you prefer.

Ive never played it, but I own the soundtracks. It has the best soundtrack out of all of the PSO titles.
And if you didnt know Phantasy Star Zero just released on the DS in the US.

Never ended up playing Phantasy Star Universe once I discovered I had to pay to play online. I also just made an account for Dungeon Fighter. I don't play any pc games but a side scrolling beat em up mmo? Brilliant. I haven't played much but I quite like it so far.Inazuma wrote:Phantasy Star Universe is my most played game of all time. We should play DFO together sometime. I'm currently playing as a lv 25 Witch. IGN is Midori77.(-_-) wrote: Never ended up playing Phantasy Star Universe once I discovered I had to pay to play online. i personally would rather play pso: BB over universe just because of the pay to play. the game is not nearly worth a full blown monthly fee.
