Ultima Online

Post by Octopod »

I am downloading the 14 day trail now. Anyone here play this? It has been quite a while since I played a MMO but I never played UO and it seems like one I might like.

I've personaly never played it but some guys at Gamestop were talking about it and said it was pretty good. I've played City of Heroes and it was o.k. Nice Mad Max avatar

I was really suprised that UO was still around too. I thought it was closed down years ago. It just got some big graphical overhaul. I played about an hour tonight which was not enough to figure anything out but I will give it more time real soon.

I played from launch for 10 years and recently I've been working on a private server. For the time being it's literally a private server--pretty much just me and NPCs and occasionally my wife.

Regardless, it's a great game. Most will argue it isn't nearly as good as it was in the past but it's still got core mechanics that I think are unmatched by any other game on the market. This could change when Mortal Online comes out though. It'd being developed by a number of the members of the original UO development team.

I tried it out about 6 years ago on a private server. My friend's guild was a little too serious about it. They gave me stuff, and told me to keep up while taking down dragons. I died a bunch of times, lost the stuff and spent some time farming cotton and cutting down trees. I can happily farm items and grind for hours at a time on a lot of games, but UO just didn't do it for me. I can see how it would be fun, but it was just too slow-paced and meticulous for me to keep at it. I think that's one of the last MMOs I've played.
