Karnov's ending was exceptionally lazy, but it was a fairly easy game. Rampage and 1942 also had endings that simply said "congratulations" before returning to the start screen. I still think Ghosts 'n Goblins was the worst though because it was so hard to get through the game once, but then it made you go through it all a second time, so you were really hoping for the ending to be something good, then you get this lame and poorly written end screen.
This reminds me. Ikari Warriors was another game that was incredibly hard and had a big let down of an ending, written out with poor grammar.
I could only find an image of the ending in this quiz picture. It looks like Karnov is in the upper right, Ghosts 'n Goblins in the lower left, and Ikari Warriors in the lower right.
a few i just remembered:
zone of the enders- nothing like playing a short game, having a lackluster last boss, then thinking you will finally get off to other places and the main character will finnaly get some balls and stop bitching...only to see that that's the end of the game. the sequal was so much better.
also Dead space was kinda retarded.

Put me down also for Monkey Island 2. Really bizarre ending that left a lot unexplained. That game was weird in a lot of ways. Weakest of all the Monkey Island games I've played so far(currently working my way through Escape)
Dead Rising's TRUE ending kind of sucks. We don't really know what happens to Frank, or all those survivors I worked my ass off to save. And it seems like the game's so called BEST ending is the one that guarantees all the main characters will die. Plus, Overtime Mode just plain sucked, extending the game's length with some stupid fetch quests, a couple of hours of sitting around doing nothing and two horrible boss fights. It's a Capcom game though, I should know better then to expect a satisfying ending from a company known for coming up with good stories but always dropping the ball in resolving them

But yeah, the ending IS referenced in Curse of Monkey Island. Guybrush mentions escaping from, I think it was the "Carnival of the Damned" or something like that, during the opening cutscene.

I actually like how Curse handled that silly ending. I think Monkey Island is probably better off without Ron Gilbert personally. Curse was so good and he was not involved at all

Add a new one to the list of most disappointing endings ever: Nelson Tether's- Puzzle Agent.
First off, the game is great. There is a quirky story set in Scoggins, Minnesota and the art style and storyline create a unique balance between humorous and creepy. The puzzles themselves range from easy to moderately challenging. I enjoyed them all.
Then it ends. So SPOILERS AHEAD!
You finally begin to uncover the mystery of what is going on in Scoggins Eraser Factory. There is a town coverup, but there wasn't a murder. You find out the foreman is still alive and a bizarre race of gnomes that the locals call "the hidden people" have captured him and put him there. There is a local cult that seems to worship the hidden people and their riddles have most of the town in a trance that leaves them fiending for puzzles. Only, instead of making sense of all of this, the game just suddenly ends. You are back in your office where you began and you are congratulated for finding the foreman alive. You're off the case. All of the intrigue and mystery about the town leads to absolutely nothing but a credits roll. This is the most frustrating video game ending I have seen in years. I genuinely liked this game, but I'm mad because it just stops. The game is supposedly meant to be a "pilot episode" for a potentially longer series, so I guess they are trying to draw interest for the next episode, but it really just left me angry.
