I support your cause. I hate this fucking new trend for action filmes to be shot 6 inches away from the subject and it being on permanent wobble mode. So many modern films are being ruined because of this god awful 'technique'. It's what made Cloverfield absolutely and completely unwatchable for me. I turned it off after 30 minutes of forcing myself and thinking it may get better. Having watched the ending, it doesn't.
Seriously, what the fuck is up with this shit? You can't see anything in the scene, it makes the budget go higher because the special fx have to be adjusted for every single frame in the scene. It just looks like it's been filmed by a parkinson's sufferer with a severe case of ADHD.
This shit HAS to stop. NOW

Really? For me it was the completely unlikeable, self-absorbed, escaped-from-90210 characters, accompanying annoying script, and uninteresting plot.Niode wrote:It's what made Cloverfield absolutely and completely unwatchable for me.

I wouldn't mind the action sequences nearly as much if the film hadn't hit on another of my Hollywood film pet peeves...
Why, in a film about ninjas, a type of warrior from Japanese history, are all but one of the main Asian actors Korean? Why does this always happen?

Every movie ever made will fall to the awesomeness that is THE EXPENDABLES.MrPopo wrote: That movie cannot match up to the pure win that is City Hunter.

You're right. Japanese should be played by Americans, dammit!Ack wrote: Why, in a film about ninjas, a type of warrior from Japanese history, are all but one of the main Asian actors Korean? Why does this always happen?
I don't have a strong basis for this, but I think that part of the reason we have have Koreans playing Japanese is just that the Japanese don't have a lot of interest in being in American films. Perhaps it's a matter of national pride or something.
But having Koreans sub for Japanese people isn't so bad. Koreans look a lot more like people Japanese than Chinese do.

Hmmm, I hoped this movie would be worth checking out, but I don't like what I'm hearing. Oh well, the best martial arts movies are usually the ones you don't hear about anyway. Anything that gets lots of attention over in this side of the world is either massivly dumbed down, majorly edited or more about being artsy than being about martial arts. Which reminds me, I need to get a region free dvd player one of these days so I can check out some imports(the only way to really see some good martial arts flicks). Think the last good martial arts movie I have seen was Sha Po Lang with Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung
Oh yeah, I love the point someone made about the stupid ass title of the movie. Reminds me of a comedien I heard complaining about people saying things like ATM machine.

If they were Japanese Americans, I'd have no problems. And there are Japanese actors willing to do American movies, but they never seem to be used. But it just seems to me that East Asian actors tend to get typecast as merely East Asian, not specific to an actual nation. It's always really bugged me.Limewater wrote:You're right.
