Updating PSP CFW

Post by itsmattxp »

Hey everyone, I just got into doing some emulation on my PSP and was wondering how I can upgrade from the CFW I have now. At the moment my PSP is on CFW 3.71 M33-4 and I would like to upgrade it to some CFW that is 5.00 M33 or something along those lines. Mostly trying to get the most out of my PSP. I have the original PSP, got it back when it first game out (PSP-1000) and hacked the firmware. Its been a while since then and now I need your help. If someone can list step by step what to do that would be the best. Thanks!

Just follow this guide. You want to update to original firmware 5.03 and then install the 5.00 M33-6.

That's what I'm currently running. I plan to try out the Gen-D firmware at some point on my phat.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT DO THAT!

Once you have CFW, stay with those releases. To go from 5.03 -> CFW 5.00 is PANDORA ONLY. Rather, follow the releases - go to http://www.psp-hacks.com/ and find the the 5.00 M33 update. What he mentioned is the worst thing you can do, as it is involves a convoluted process. Instead, download the 5.00 eboot and the 5.00 m33 installer, then the incremental -# updates. If it complains, start with updating to the 4.XX M33 releases, then to 5.00. Remember - 5.00 m33 is the main release, the -# releases are updates.

What exactly is complicated about this? It's very simple.

You update to original 5.0.3 firmware (do not go any higher) and then run ChickHEN to do the 5.0 M33-6 installer. It's a 2 step process that does not require the use of the pandora battery.

I went from CFW 3.xx straight to CFW5.00r3 (it was the latest at the time) by just using the update eboot. No problems at all. Didn't need a guide or anything.

Yeah, same here. Just update to 5.00m33, and then update to 5.50GEN, if you want the latest version.

Why do 2 steps when you can do only 1? That's complicating things. Like others said 3.71 straight to 5.00 m33. You probably missed that he said he was on 3.71 custom firmware, if not on cfw I can also strongly recommend what you posted about updating to sony official 5.03, then ChickHEN, then either CFW Enabler or Hellcat Recovery based on the PSP version or motherboard.

So if you have Pandora already then great, but if you don't then buying one or making one is a waste of time, but sometimes ChickHEN is annoying as hell.
