Homebrew Carts for NES

Well in reality, a GBA repro could just be a single small flaschard, with the translated ROM and emulator set to just "bootme" or whatever. And then there would of course be repro sticker on the cart and repro boxart. Seems like a pretty cheap and easy hobbiest thing to do -- a lot easier than say finding donor carts etc with NES/SNES games.

How did they produce 100 copies each of these homebrew GBA titles? Perhpas the way that I outlined?

So I was looking at sites like http://www.nesreproductions.com/ . Some of those games would be cool to have on actual carts. But I don't want to pay the outrageous prices people charge for them.

I've ordered from NES Repros a few times in the past. They only charge around $20-$25 which is a great price for the quality they offer, I've never even had so much as a blinking light or corrupted save with their games.
Otherwise, other companies already sell what you're looking for (HERE) for much more.

Third vote for Nesreproductions for NES stuff. $25 is the price for the work and return shipping from Canada, you just have to provide an appropriate donor cart. That's a really good price. My Recca cart looks and plays great.

As others have mentioned, Ziggy here has got great looking SNES repros going on.

it allows you to play NES/SNES games via SD-Card (i.e. you put an SD-Card into a cartridge, which you then pop into your NES/SNES)

Another vote for that site. $25 is extremely cheap to have some one do it for you. Unless you like doing it as a hobby, for that price I wouldn't even bother doing it myself.

But if you'd like to make your own, they're not very hard at all. From what I gather, most of the time you just have to swap out mask ROMs from a donor cart with EPROMs. The only trick is that the EPROM's pin outs differ from the mask ROM's so you have to switch a couple connections.

I WISH they would make something like this for SNES. It would save me so much hassle! With these boards, the pin outs of EPROMs match up so you can just drop them right in. That site also carries the Cyclone Chip which is a multi region lockout chip. They even carry different color NES cases, so it's a one stop shop for making NES repros with out the need of a donor cart (you would just have to get your EPROMs elsewhere). In the event you want to use a donor cart, NESreproductions is a great site to find out what cart you need. Just looks for the game you wanna make and he lets you know which carts will work as donors for it.

A couple of months back I purchased a whole stack, about six games, from NESreproductions.com. Leon, the guy there, is awesome and does a great job. He even has professional looking labels that he puts on the carts. Sure, it might be a pain to gather the right donor carts, but seriously, for the money, you really can't beat it. Playing FF III on my NES, in English, is definitely worth the cash!
