Re: Anyone In The Christmas Mood Yet?

I'm kind of into the Christmas mood, but I don't like going into stores at this time of the year. I like that Christmas song by Blink 182, I don't really like them but that song is funny.

Even as an atheist myself, this just seems needlessly negative. I may not celebrate the cause of Christmas, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a great spirit behind it. This year I'm taking my family to volunteer at a soup kitchen on Christmas day (one of the hardest days of the year to get volunteers), in part because I don't celebrate Christmas and want to make something more of the day than the birth it celebrates.

Are you trying to get Inazuma started? I think I will stay out this time.

I'm not trying to get anyone started. I could have been mean if I wanted to be. :)

More on-topic, I hate how Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier each year, and having worked retail when I was younger during the Christmas season, the music drives me nuts. Oddly enough though, despite not being a Mariah Carey fan, I really enjoy "All I Want for Christmas Is You".

Volunteering at a soup kitchen is great. That's a good thing. Going out and spending tons of money on gifts you wouldn't have bought normally isn't. Yeah, Christmas was originally based on fairy tales but nowadays it's all about spending money. I don't have a problem with giving gifts to others but I prefer to have a reason behind it. Buying someone a gift just because society tells you to is yet another example of our typical mindless behavior and I'll have no part in it.

For the record, my favorite holiday is Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday. I feel that this day actually helps spread a positive message. I could go on and on complaining about most of the bullshit holidays we have but basically it all comes down to me needing a reason to do something.

Society - "Hey Inazuma. It's 'Spin Day'. Let's spin around in circles until we puke all over the place."
Inazuma - "Why should I do that?"
Society - "Because it's tradition! Everyone else is doing it. Don't be such a party pooper."
Inazuma - "Can you give me an actual good reason why I should spin around in circles until I puke?"
Society - "Because I say so."
Inazuma - "Yeah... You don't actually have a reason."
This pretty much sums up most holidays (^_^);

Nope. But I can't wait for winter break from school, so I guess I'm not that far off.

It's hard for me to get in the Christmas mood when I still have to turn my ac on in my car.
Damn you global warming.

Tomorrow I'm celebrating Spin Day with Society.

Oh, maybe one of you guys can answer this. Why is it that people have both winter clothes and Christmas clothes? Why is it necessary to have a specific set of sweaters with those green and red patterns that you wear to your niece's recital and to the family get-together at your grandparent's house?
