What age is right for your first console?
Re: What age is right for your first console?
I didn't notice the TV's in HER room. It's definitely too early to have the TV in her room. I mean, from experience being a teenager and all not long ago, having the TV in my room would distract me so much. Same with a computer in my room. I still don't have a TV in my room because of the potential distractions when I study. But I do have a computer in my room now because everything needs a computer now. When I graduate from university, I'll have the TV in my room.

I had a TV in my room when I was 9.
It was a tiny jacked tv I found in the dumpster... but a TV none the less.
No cable obviously.
Anyways, it was a responsibility thing for me with my mom. If I screwed up she would have taken it out or grounded me from it... etc etc.

My dad had Intellivision and Atari 2600 hooked up since I was born, but I apparently never cared as a young child, even after he bought the NES. In fact, I wasn't really interested in playing games (though watching was a different story) until the Super Mario Brother 3 hype started. Next thing I knew, the SNES was launching. Then I had my own system! And I was hooked!
...and my dad immediately became a PC guy.

Q. What age is right for your first console?
A. When you can finally afford one.
my first ever purchased was the N64. but my dad bought us a SNES, Gen and NES before that, but never felt like it was mine since it was shared among my siblings. (but i do own an SNES, Gen and NES now)
the first game i loved was mario bros. for the famicom. my brother and i would play that on the famicom back in the days. I think i was only about 4 or 5 yrs old.

I've had my own TV in my room since I was 2 or 3. I used to watch little kid VHS tapes and play SNES on it.wakeup wrote:I didn't notice the TV's in HER room. If she really gets into videogames, she's going to grow up one day and get a lot of attention from nerd boys.

Ahhh responses!! Busy holidays.....
Yeah the TV in her room thing just kinda happened. We have a rather small house and when I upgraded the main TV I just didn't have anywhere to put it, so it ended up on top of her dresser. The DC is the only thing hooked up to it. No cable, DVD player or other systems. I myself had my own TV at 6 or 7, but I also shared a room with my older brother.
She seems to be very responsible with it so far. In terms of how much she plays and how she takes care of it. She is very social and has been asking me to come play with her most of the time, and seriously how many times do you get asked to play some NES? The emulators are easily her favorites so far.
Besides telling her that she has to take care of her homework and chores etc. before she can play, I also explained that this is HERS, so she better take care of it. Told her not to leave it on when not in use, keep the games in the cases and to just ask and I will dust it out for her like I do my stuff. Overall she is doing great with it, so I think she gets to keep it.
Oh yeah one last thing. If she tries to play after bedtime I think I will catch her. The DC totally had a system to warn parents of this: Dead VMU batteries!
Heck her best friend is a little nerdy boy named Ryan. I had to school him in Tekken because he was talking crap haha.J T wrote:If she really gets into videogames, she's going to grow up one day and get a lot of attention from nerd boys.
