I've only ever bought 3 collector's edition games.

Diablo II, which had a box big enough to stuff a dead body in. (Pre-ordered)

Hellgate London, which I splurged on the Lifetime subscription too, then that all went in the toilet. (Pre-ordered)

Prey, because when I finally got around to picking it up, the special edition was 2 cents cheaper than the normal version.

I bought the Resident Evil 5 collectors ed. I would have the Demon's Souls one right now if Gamestop wouldn't have screwed me. I reserved the Deluxe Ed. and when I went to pick it up they said that I had reserved the regular one, I still have the reciept that shows that I reserved the Deluxe copy.

I don't usually buy limited or collector's editions for games I like, since most of the time the collector's edition either doesn't exist or the extra stuff (if any) isn't that interesting at all. For pre-order bonuses, especially Japanese pre-order bonuses, I usually end up buying them separately off eBay or Yahoo if I like them.

I also can rarely justify Limited Edition sets. It always depends on the bonuses, of course. If a better controller (rhythm games, namely) or an in-game bonus (Forza 3, for instance) is included, I'll often consider it. I'm heavily into shooters, but most limited edition releases of shooters coming from Japan typically just include a soundtrack, which is never worth it for me. Plus the price some LE's are jacked up to is absurd.

I found a LE FFXII with a metal box, a second disc with making of bullshit I really didn't care about, and different cover art. I only bought it because it was the same price as the regular edition.

Does the Orange Box that actually came IN AN ORANGE BOX count? (Because I know after the first run, they've come in a plain ol' black box.)

Most limited editions aren't worth it. And every game nowadays has its own LL. Kinda of sad, actually. Bayonetta got its "collector's edition" based on hype alone.

I have a few newer collectors edition games. My favorite one is the Fallout 3 collectors edition with the Pip Boy bobblehead and the awesome tin lunchbox.

I like the idea of a collector's edition, i only buy the collector's editions for the games I really like though; examples would include Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Resident Evil 5, Saints Row 2. However, If later on down the road I find one that is on sale for a fair price, I would rather own that edition because I really like bonus content! Saints Row 2 was sweet in that it came with a bullet shaped USB flashdrive
