Re: Help me narrow down my collection!
Rad Racer (NES) is in my personal Top 10 video games of all time. It's very challenging and fun
Gradius III (SNES) has some HORRIBLE slowdown. I'd recommend the PS2 version - Gradius III & IV
I had never even played Sonic 3 (Gen) up until a week ago! But it's classic Sonic, nice level design
I don't recall Crazy Taxi 3 coming out on the DC - thought it was only on Xbox?
Ridge Racer V (PS2) - Bah. So not worth it. Invest in the Burnout series instead

But that puts you right back at more or less the arcade version, which he's already emulating and complaining about the crushing difficulty. Yes the slowdown helps, but I've finished G3 on the SNES even on the hard difficulty. The PS2 version is an exercise in frustration like the arcade.Weekend_Warrior wrote: Gradius III (SNES) has some HORRIBLE slowdown. I'd recommend the PS2 version - Gradius III & IV

The multiplayer of Chip & Dale is similiar to new super mario bros. wii in that you can help each other reach a mutual goal or you can throw each other to the wolves, it is endlessly fun to throw a huge apple at player 2
Re: Help me narrow down my collection!
Have you considered MUSHA for the Sega Genesis? One freakn' awesome shooter that actually requires some sorta skill...

Re: Help me narrow down my collection!
Where is all the Ducktales 2 love? Perhaps nostalgia is clouding my vision but I find this game to be unbelievably awesome. There are so many secrets. I mean the secret quotient was amped up exponentially in this game, so much so that there is a secret level. For me at least, this was the first time I remember playing a game with a hidden stage. What a great game. If I may harp on one thing, the game is ridiculously expensive. If you can find it cheap go for it but I have seen this game selling between $30 and $50 on eBay and to be honest $30 for a NES game is just too expensive.

Re: Help me narrow down my collection!
My two cents
NES:
Chip'n'Dale This game is fun, but easy, and i wouldnt call it a must have by any stretch.
MEGADRIVE/GENESIS
Sonic 3: Most people seem to really like this game, but personally i cant stand it. too many gimmicky features that slow you down.
Ecco the Dolphin: This game is kinda meh. There's a lot of fetch quests.
SNES
Donkey Kong Country 2&3 These two build up on the original enough for me to say that they're all worth it. 3 is my favourite in the series.
Starfox: This isnt really like space harrier imo, but it IS my favourite SNES game. Its fun, fast and awesome.
DREAMCAST
Space Channel 5: If you're a fan of music games, this is one of the best. I personally had a few issues with the dreamcast D-pad, but not enough to put me off.
Sega Master System
Theres plenty of games i'd recommend for master system not on your list. Golvellius, Fantasy Zone, alex kidd in miracle world, wonder boy, wonder boy:monster land, wonder boy III: the dragon's trap, alex kidd in shinobi world and penguin land are games i'd recommend. The first master system sonic game is a favourite of mine too, but not essential.
Zelda and Metroid
Go for super metroid, its definetely the best. As for zelda, thats trickier. they're generally all worth it.

Re: Help me narrow down my collection!
Oh, thanks very much for your responses!
OUT
The later Megaman games are out as well as Ridge Racer, Ecco, Ogre Battle (Too expensive) and Crazy Taxi 3 (Xbox game, not Dreamcast!).
Chip'n'Dale is out. I will probably get three screens for my PC so I will not play it with my friends.
Herzwog Zwei. It seems way too simple for me. Just create tanks and spam the enemy base. I don't think I would play this with Civilization IV and modern RTS for multiplayer around. Also a bit on the expensive side.
Rad Racer. I prefer to play OutRun again, me thinks. It feels bland and lacks speed.
I may pick them up if I see them for really cheap but I won't actively seek them.
IN
I'm going to keep River City Ramson since I checked and I don't have but a fistful of Beat'em'ups. Also it's a common game and doesn't take long to be beaten which is good.
Space Channel 5. I'm not scared of timing, I play Beatmania! It can't be worse than that. Since the Dreamcast version is rare should I pick the PS2 version instead?
Klonoa. If I can rush through the levels I'm sold, I loved that about Super Mario Bros, in fact, I play better if I'm running all the time instead of timing my jumps.
Out of this World PC version.
Super Metroid. Everyone seems to agree it's a better than the first one. How difficult is it if I use a map?
PERHAPS
On Shin Megami Tensei I think I will play SMT: If... first and if I like the feel of the game I will play I and II. Since they are Japanese games I will probably play them in a DS emulator until I get repro cartridges so they could be beaten soon. How long are they?
After some thought I decided that the reason to pick Super Mario All Stars is Super Mario Bros 2 (Lost Levels, not that crappy recolored game). However I haven't played it, I know it's hard and has levels from the arcade version (6-1 anyone?) so if it is not a good game I will probably pass and get just Super Mario Bros. 3. Final thoughts?
I'm not worried about Xenosaga's cutscenes, I'm worried about their writing quality. How clichéd is the plot?
I will pass on Donkey Kong Country 3, didn't like it when I tried it back when I played SNES games on an emulator (Didn't know that it was actually an emulator XD). On the other hand DKC 2 gave me a better feeling so I may pick it up if I see it cheaply.
Starfox seems fast (That is what makes Space Harrier so awesome) and the 3D doesn't look as bad as I thought. However your ship is hugee. Isn't it annoying to aim?
Gradius III. If I find it for cheap and complete I will pick it up, if not it's out.
@alienjesus
Thw wonderboy games are arcade prots so I will use MAME instead. Golvellius seems cool but I'm not a fan of Zelda-like games.
@kingmohd84
I have 50 more CONSOLE games on my list. Also I don't play as much as you would think.

Re: Help me narrow down my collection!
Wonder Boy III: The dragons trap isnt an arcade port, and is easily the best in the series IMO. If nothing else, get that one. Also, i hear Monster Land is better on Master system then on Arcade, due to the arcade one have a rediculous interface.
I've never had any issues aiming on starfox for what its worth.
Super Metroid is the first metroid game with a map in the actual game, so you wont have too many problems.

Get it, it's an awesome game. Except for SMB 1, all the games are improved IMO.General_Norris wrote:After some thought I decided that the reason to pick Super Mario All Stars is Super Mario Bros 2 (Lost Levels, not that crappy recolored game).
