Wii: A failure
Re: Wii: A failure
Honestly I don't get some things.
Games that are kid-friendly can (and do) appeal to older gamers. Is it maybe some gamers are weak-willed enough to care about what their "peers" think about them for playing so-called "girly/toddler" games?
Good games are good games, and bad games are bad games. Lots of "girly/toddler" games are crap. Even if they ARE crap for most people, but you have fun with them, why exactly should you care about what strangers (or even so-called "friends") think?
Easy example: Mario games aren't suddenly bad or inappropriate for adults just because they can ALSO be played by children. Is a game that much more special to an adult if only the adults can play it? Seems like overvaluing "exclusivity" there.
Certainly some themes or games only work well if they have some setting that makes them inappropriate for children - but otherwise putting graphic violence in a game that can work perfectly without it is a waste. The more people that can enjoy it the better, and it is a shame that so many gamers seem to be somehow limited to not enjoy a game if it can be enjoyed by kids as well.
Ivo.

Re: Wii: A failure
It really just comes down to different tastes. The Wii is a wildly different flavor, one that tastes quite nice to some people. It's the only one off the three I don't have but I do want one now. There's plenty of justification for buying one today. These threads don't really serve a purpose, you're just stating the obvious: Features are no where near as cool or deep as with PS3/360, but it's fun in its own ways, too. My iPhone doesn't do all the stuff my 360 can but it's still fun to fire up a game on it sometimes.
This might have some merit if no one under the age of, say, 16 played video games any more. We all know that's far from the truth.black flag nc wrote:Even in the weakest console generation ever, the Wii is a joke. Honestly... so is Nintendo. Gamers grow up. Companies should grow with them.
But in all fairness, they made a lot of $ with their girly/toddler games and controller gimmick. So maybe they're brilliant and we're the saps?

Dude, I'm 31 years old. I don't have peers. I'm very secure in who I am and I know what I like. The big N stopped being a viable source of entertainment to me with the N64(aka the Pokeconsole!).
I still love my NES and SNES, though. My wife is playing the SNES as I type actually.

And I'm 30, also a former Nintendophile. What's your point?

She loves her Zelda! Nintendo will always be #1 with the ladies.Ack wrote:Oooh, what SNES game is she playing?
People where hinting that adult gamers are facing peer pressure to play "grown-up" games. Like we're 16 years old...RadarScope1 wrote:And I'm 30, also a former Nintendophile. What's your point?
Re: Wii: A failure
None of the three main consoles right now are failures. Everyone just likes what they like. I played Pokemon Crystal the most this week.
Thanks everyone...
